Paths End Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Paths End, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a modest countryside property. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t need to shout about themselves. This four-star gem sits quietly on North Road in St Teath, just outside the famous fishing village of Port Isaac — and I mean just outside, which turned out to be perfect positioning.
Location & Getting Around
The location is actually brilliant once you understand the area. You’re close enough to walk into Port Isaac’s narrow streets (where they film Doc Martin, if you’re into that sort of thing), but far enough away to escape the tourist crowds that can get pretty intense during peak season. I loved having free parking right on site — trust me, you’ll appreciate this when you see how impossible it is to park anywhere near the harbor. The coastal path is practically on your doorstep, and those dramatic clifftop walks toward Tintagel are something else entirely.
The Room Experience
I’ll be honest, the room itself wasn’t the fanciest I’ve stayed in, but it had everything that mattered. The bed was genuinely comfortable — like, properly comfortable, not just hotel-speak comfortable. I slept better here than I had in weeks, which probably explains why couples rate this place so highly for romantic getaways. The views from my window looked out over the Cornish countryside, all rolling green fields dotted with stone walls. There’s something deeply peaceful about waking up to that scene, especially after you’ve spent a day battling the coastal winds.
Breakfast & Dining
Breakfast here is where they really shine, actually. You can go continental if you’re in a hurry to hit the coast path, but honestly, the Full English is worth getting up for. Everything’s cooked properly — none of that lukewarm buffet nonsense you get at chain hotels. I found myself lingering over coffee longer than usual, partly because the dining area has this relaxed, unhurried atmosphere that makes you want to plan your day slowly. The staff seemed to genuinely know the area too, which meant I got some excellent recommendations for hidden coves and decent pubs.
Why Guests Love It
What makes Paths End work so well is that it gets the fundamentals right without trying to be something it’s not. It’s the kind of place where you feel immediately settled, where the 9.2 guest rating actually makes sense once you’ve been there a day or two. The combination of being near Port Isaac but not in the thick of it, having reliable parking, and getting a genuinely good night’s sleep — these things matter more than fancy amenities when you’re exploring Cornwall. Plus, the staff treat you like a person, not a room number, which goes a long way when you’re trying to make the most of a short break in this beautiful part of the country.
Hotel in Cornwall reservations spike before Boardmasters festival, so surfers lock in balconies with Atlantic views.
