This four-star property sits in the kind of countryside that makes you forget you’re only twenty minutes from the coast, with rolling fields stretching as far as you can see and that particular Cornish quietness that’s hard to find these days.

The Setting

The location is actually brilliant if you’re planning to explore both inland Cornwall and the coast. You’re close enough to Looe and Polperro for day trips, but far enough away to escape the summer crowds that can make those coastal towns feel a bit overwhelming. I found myself using it as a base for hiking the South West Coast Path — there’s something satisfying about returning to this peaceful spot after a day of battling Cornish winds along the cliffs. The parking is right there, which might sound trivial until you’ve spent twenty minutes circling narrow village streets looking for a spot.

The Accommodation

The room I stayed in still had those original barn features — exposed beams, thick stone walls — but they’ve done the conversion thoughtfully. It’s not one of those places where they’ve tried to cram modern fixtures into every corner and lost the character. The space feels generous, which I suspect comes from the barn’s original proportions, and there’s a proper sense of privacy even though you know other guests are nearby. The bed was genuinely comfortable, and I’m someone who usually struggles with hotel mattresses.

Practical Comforts

What impressed me most was how they’ve managed the balance between rustic charm and actual comfort. The heating works properly — crucial in a stone building — and the shower has decent pressure, which honestly can be hit or miss in converted properties like this. There’s a small kitchenette area that’s more functional than I expected, perfect for making morning coffee or storing those Cornish pasties you’ll inevitably buy from the local bakery. The Wi-Fi actually works throughout the building, though I found myself using it less than usual — there’s something about this place that makes you want to disconnect a bit.

I can see why couples rate this place so highly — it’s got that romantic countryside vibe without feeling isolated or impractical. The peace here is real, not manufactured, and you wake up to actual birdsong rather than traffic noise.
