First Impressions

Walking into YHA Boscastle feels like stepping into a piece of Cornwall’s maritime history — and that’s because you literally are. The hostel sits in the old Palace Stables, right in the heart of this dramatic coastal village where the River Jordan meets the sea. I mean, you can’t get much more atmospheric than that. The building itself has this wonderful old-world charm that immediately tells you you’re somewhere special, not just another generic accommodation.

Location & Village Life

Honestly, the location here is pretty much perfect if you want to experience authentic Cornwall. You’re literally steps from Boscastle’s famous harbour — the one that was so dramatically rebuilt after the 2004 floods. The South West Coast Path runs right past your door, which means you can be hiking those spectacular clifftops within minutes of leaving your room. What I love is how couples seem to absolutely adore this spot (they consistently rate the location a perfect 10), and I get why. There’s something genuinely romantic about wandering down to the harbour at sunset or exploring the narrow village streets together.

The Accommodation

Now, this is a YHA hostel, so set your expectations accordingly — but honestly, it’s one of the better ones I’ve stayed in. The rooms are clean and comfortable, nothing fancy but everything you need after a day exploring the coast. What really works here is the atmosphere; you get that proper traveler vibe where people are actually excited to share stories about their adventures. The communal areas have character too, with stone walls and beamed ceilings that remind you you’re sleeping in a building with real history.

Breakfast & Practical Matters

The full English breakfast here is actually pretty decent — proper fuel for tackling those coastal walks. You know what I appreciate? They don’t try to be something they’re not. It’s hearty, well-prepared food that sets you up for the day, served in a dining room where you’ll probably end up chatting with fellow hikers about the best routes to Tintagel Castle (which is just up the coast, by the way). The staff genuinely know the area and can point you toward hidden gems that aren’t in the guidebooks.

Look, if you’re after a five-star spa experience, this isn’t your place. But if you want to wake up in one of Cornwall’s most photogenic villages, surrounded by some of England’s most dramatic coastline, then YHA Boscastle delivers exactly what it promises.   We had a great stay at this hostel! The location is perfect for hikers on the SWCP, and I loved the sea view from our room – truly a highlight. The staff were incredibly friendly and flexible, always happy to help with anything. The kitchen was well-equipped and made cooking super easy. Everything was exceptionally clean. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a comfortable and welcoming stay!

  Good value for money with all the necessities needed for a quick getaway in the area. Very quiet and clean property.
