Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about YHA Boscastle? It’s actually housed in these old Palace Stables, and honestly, they’ve done something pretty special with the conversion. I mean, you can still feel the history in the thick stone walls and beamed ceilings, but it doesn’t feel like you’re sleeping in a barn or anything. The whole place has this warm, welcoming vibe that’s way more sophisticated than your typical hostel experience – which makes sense given it’s earned 4 stars and that impressive 9.2 rating.

The location is absolutely brilliant if you know anything about North Cornwall. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Boscastle’s tiny harbor, where you can watch the fishing boats come in (assuming the tide’s right), and the South West Coast Path practically runs past your door. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets in the evenings – Boscastle isn’t exactly a party town, so you’ll actually get some sleep before tackling those coastal walks. The staff seem to genuinely know the area too, not just the usual tourist spots. They pointed me toward this incredible section of the coast path heading toward Tintagel that I never would have found otherwise, plus they had proper local knowledge about tide times and which beaches are worth the scramble down.

The rooms themselves are clean and comfortable – nothing fancy, but you’re not here to lounge around inside anyway. Parking can be a bit tight during summer months (well, it’s Boscastle, everything’s tight), but there’s a car park nearby, and honestly, once you’re settled in, you won’t need your car much. The communal areas actually work really well for meeting other hikers and getting route recommendations. I overheard some brilliant conversations about hidden coves and the best pubs in nearby villages. The kitchen facilities are decent if you want to cook your own meals, though I’d recommend walking down to the village for dinner at least once – the Napoleon Inn does a proper Cornish pasty, and you can sit outside watching the river if the weather’s behaving. What really sold me on this place was how it strikes that perfect balance between being a proper base for exploring this stunning bit of coastline while still feeling like a retreat at the end of a long day tramping across the moors.

Good value for money with all the necessities needed for a quick getaway in the area. Very quiet and clean property.

What could be improved: The lock in our Room(4) sometimes not working, sometimes you thought it's lock already from the inside but can still be open from the outside even without the key. For sure this will be sorted out by the management.
