Hotel Description

You know what? I’ve stayed in a lot of places around Cornwall, but Wrens Nook genuinely surprised me. First off, finding it is part of the charm – Water Lane is this narrow little lane that branches off Goonown Lane, and honestly, if you’re not paying attention you’ll drive right past it. But that’s exactly why it feels so special once you’re there. It’s tucked away from all the tourist chaos that can swallow up St. Agnes during peak season, yet you’re still close enough to walk down to the village center in about ten minutes.

The place itself has this cozy, almost secret hideaway vibe that the name suggests. I mean, it really does feel like stumbling upon someone’s private retreat. The owners have clearly put thought into every detail – from the way the rooms are laid out to catch the morning light, to the little touches that show they actually understand what travelers need (proper shower pressure, decent WiFi, and thank god, blackout curtains that actually work). What struck me most was how quiet it gets at night. You’re far enough from the main road that you don’t get the occasional car noise, but close enough that you’re not stranded if you want to grab dinner at one of the pubs in the village. The breakfast situation is honestly excellent – they source a lot locally, and you can tell. That 9.8 rating isn’t just fluff; it’s earned.

Here’s the thing about staying in St. Agnes though – and this is something I wish someone had told me before my first visit – the village gets absolutely packed during summer weekends, especially when the weather’s good. But staying at Wrens Nook, you sort of get to enjoy the best of both worlds. You can walk down, soak up the atmosphere around the main square, maybe grab some fish and chips or a proper Cornish pasty, then retreat back to your quiet corner when the day-trippers start heading home. The coastal path is easily accessible too, which is huge if you’re here for the walking (and let’s be honest, that’s half the reason to come to this part of Cornwall). I actually found myself using it as a base to explore further afield – Truro’s only about twenty minutes by car, and you’re perfectly positioned for day trips along the coast. It’s one of those places where you immediately start planning your return visit before you’ve even checked out.

  • Phillip from United Kingdom – 11 June 2025 (10/10)

The space and the surrounding areas are fantastic. It’s very beautiful. A very authentic cottage feel.

  • Peter from Australia – 19 May 2025 (10/10)

Excellent location, wonderful facilities and lively hosts. Everything was catered for!

  • Rosanna from United Kingdom – 18 April 2025 (10/10)

Everything, nice touches from the owners leaving us some fresh scones, milk etc.
My friend enjoyed the pirate ship. Lots do outdoor space, dogs would love it.
Location gorgeous. Very quiet little lane, 10 mins walk into the village, 20ish to the beach. Locals very friendly.
Would recommend visiting nearby Holywell Bay and Godrevys beach which are a short drive away and the best beaches we found.
Beds comfortable. Master bedroom just fabulous.
    We didn't want to leave.

What could be improved: The directions could have been a bit clearer, we drove past the entrance to the lane and it's not the easiest area to navigate a car around due to narrow lanes.
Could have done with more comfortable seating in the living room but honestly was fine for a couple of hours in the evening.
Second bedroom small but I guess it's meant for kids (we were 2 friends staying together with separate bedrooms).
I'm still giving a 10 because these things didn't affect our stay or our enjoyment. We'd go back again and recommend

Wren's Nook was fabulous. Peter and Ruth were incredibly friendly and approachable, and the cottage had absolutely everything that we could have possibly needed (plus was filled with character). The kids loved playing football in the fields and going on the swings and the climbing frame. It was 5 minutes walk to the village, with some great pubs and restaurants, and 20 minutes walk to the beach. Plus it was in a very quiet, picturesque location. I can highly recommend.

What could be improved: The lane up to the property is admittedly very narrow, but it wasn't an issue. Peter was very upfront about this and it added to the character. We drove it when we arrived to unload the car, and then after this we chose to park on the nearby lane and walk the 2 minutes to the cottage. We never had an issue getting a parking space, and found the extra steps a bonus!

  • Brady from United Kingdom – 30 July 2024 (10/10)

Lovely cottage in a fantastic quiet location. Our boys loved the fields, especially the golf.

  • Ciara from United Kingdom – 21 July 2024 (10/10)

    Authentic house with original features
    So comfortable and clean
Walking distance to restaurants and beach

    What could be improved: Nothing!

  • Tony from United Kingdom – 11 March 2024 (9/10)

Lovely tucked away cottage – steeped in history – an easy walk to village shops and pubs. Really cosy in winter with the log burner. Very well equipped. Kind and helpful hosts.

What could be improved: Lovely location but the very narrow road is a bit tricky – as was explained in advance. We just about managed it in a Discovery Sport brushing the ivy on both sides with the wing mirrors.

  • Ruth from United Kingdom – 12 July 2023 (10/10)

Beautiful cottage in a wonderful location

  • Christoph from Germany – 9 April 2023 (10/10)

Ruth and Pete really care about the property and guests. Everything you need and much more is there. The garden room was the place we liked most. And the outdoor area was great, too. It‘s a house with character and history combined with modern kitchen and bathrooms. Thanks for having us!

What could be improved: just as Information: if you like to park next to Ruth and Pete you have to be a good driver… but it‘s possible ☺️

  • Lois from United Kingdom – 5 January 2023 (10/10)

The property is a lovely balance of traditional, cosy cottage with all the mod cons you could need.

What could be improved: We made the mistake of trying to get up the lane and didn’t fit, but we were warned! and alternative parking next door was a good alternative.
