Widemouth Manor Overview
You know what struck me first about Widemouth Manor? It’s actually positioned perfectly – close enough to hear the waves when you open your windows, but far enough back that you’re not dealing with the chaos of beachgoers tramping past your room at 7 AM. The building itself has this proper country manor feel without being stuffy about it, if that makes sense. I mean, you can tell it’s got history, but they’ve done the renovations thoughtfully rather than just slapping modern fixtures everywhere and calling it a day.
The location is honestly brilliant for exploring this part of Cornwall. You’re literally a three-minute walk down to Widemouth Beach – and I’m talking an actual sandy beach here, not those rocky coves you sometimes get stuck with. The coastal path is right there too, so if you’re into walking (and honestly, you should be if you’re staying here), you can head south toward Crackington Haven or north up to Bude proper. Bude’s only about ten minutes by car, which is handy because that’s where you’ll find the proper shops and restaurants, though the manor’s restaurant is actually quite good – they do this local seafood thing that doesn’t feel forced or touristy.
The rooms vary quite a bit since it’s an older building, but in a good way. Some have these massive windows looking out over the bay, others are tucked into corners with more character but smaller views. The bathrooms are properly updated, thank god – there’s nothing worse than beautiful period features paired with dodgy plumbing. Staff seem to genuinely know the area well; when I asked about tide times for rock pooling, the woman at reception didn’t just hand me a leaflet but actually explained which spots work best at low tide. Parking’s straightforward – there’s a proper car park, which honestly is half the battle in Cornwall during summer. The whole place gets busy in July and August (obviously), but spring and autumn here are actually magical. Less crowded, dramatic skies, and you can still get decent weather for coastal walks. That 8.3 rating feels about right – it’s not trying to be a luxury resort, but it does what it does very well, and the setting really is something special.

Location perfect as on the SWCP, very comfortable bed, evening meal good. Staff very friendly and welcoming.
What could be improved: Room was ideal but having toilet in the shower was an odd slippery combination. Probably just in the room we had (no 7)Russ from United Kingdom – 18 April 2025 (8/10)

Weird set up with the wet room… 2 suggestions, a shelf above the washbasin would be good there's nowhere to put your toothbrush and toiletries and most important please put a chair in that room! Amazing view but nowhere to sit to admire it.
