You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Waves – I mean, it’s tucked away in these golf lodges near Saint Columb Major, which honestly feels like the middle of nowhere until you realize you’re actually perfectly positioned between Cornwall’s best bits. The whole setup is sort of quietly impressive, if that makes sense. It’s got that solid 4-star feel without trying too hard to impress you with flashy lobbies or over-the-top anything.

What really got me was how they’ve nailed the location thing without being obvious about it. You’re literally a few minutes from some gorgeous coastal walks (the South West Coast Path is right there), but you’re also close enough to Newquay that you can hit the proper beaches or grab dinner somewhere decent without it being a massive expedition. And here’s the thing locals know – Saint Columb Major is actually brilliant for avoiding the summer tourist chaos while still being connected to everything. I stayed there during peak season and it was refreshingly calm, though you’ll definitely want to book the restaurant early because word’s gotten out about this place.

The rooms themselves are properly comfortable – I mean, they’ve clearly put thought into the details that actually matter. Decent shower pressure, blackout curtains that actually work (crucial if you’re planning those early morning coastal walks), and honestly the beds are spot-on. There’s this attention to comfort that feels genuine rather than just checking boxes for star ratings. The 8.6 rating makes total sense when you’re there – it’s not trying to be fancy, but everything just works really well. Parking’s straightforward too, which sounds boring but you’ll appreciate it when you’re coming back tired from exploring places like Padstow or the Eden Project. The staff genuinely seem to know the area, so when they recommend a pub or suggest timing for avoiding crowds at local attractions, they’re actually worth listening to. It’s that kind of place where you feel like you’ve stumbled onto something good rather than just booked another hotel room.

    Loved the house, it was so cozy, clean and social space and enough utensils to cook for a big group. I really enjoyed staying at this property.

    What could be improved: The only negative I found was that there were only 2 dishwasher tablets given for a 3 night stay. There were also no additional toilet papers provided.

    What a beautiful time we had! The place was very comfortable and clean, just as shown in the photos. We were especially glad the weather was on our side it made the experience even more perfect.

    What could be improved: We did have a small challenge with the TV remote, as there were no batteries, and the upstairs shower in the insuite bedroom seemed to be coming loose and may need some fixing. Other than that, I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway that still feels like a home away from home.

    Accommodation spacious and very comfortable with everything we needed and more.

    What could be improved: Location. As unable to use facilities on holiday park and location not within easy walking distance to any food outlets it meant drivng out to dine etc. The property and park are dog friendly, but actually, once on site, there is a very small dog walking area near the main road that is not enclosed or secure and is the only option for dogs.

    Cleanliness and location. Also the friendly bits and pieces like some dishwasher tablets, soap dispensers with soap, two loo rolls in all bathrooms.

    What could be improved: Nothing with the property per se. However because it is privately owned there is no way to get to use the facilities on the park such as the pool or gym.

    The apartment was very clean and tidy, there were scones cream and jam along with milk as a welcome pack, having one bedroom on the ground floor was an absolute god send with a grandparent who has arthritis in both hips, it was perfect for the 6 of us with room to spare! We really enjoyed our time away staying here. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you could need. Even did some baking! There was a slight issue with the tv but Angus came and sorted it out for us in no time, these things can’t be helped 🤷‍♂️, he couldn’t of been more helpful! Plus our dogs loved the doggie treats, they were also super dog friendly.

    It was clean and well presented. Close to all amenities.

    What could be improved: The only thing, it’s not connected to onsite indoor and outdoor pool otherwise no issues. Beaches nearby for all water lovers.

    it was very well laid out and had good space for everyone. the bathrooms worked out really well. kitchen was well appointed and had everything we needed.
