Hotel Description
Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places around Cornwall and Devon over the years, but Turnstone genuinely surprised me. It’s tucked away on Guillemote in this quiet corner of Torpoint that most people just drive through on their way to the Tamar Bridge – which, honestly, is their loss. The street itself is one of those narrow Cornish lanes where you hold your breath when another car comes the opposite way, but once you’re there, you get why they picked this spot.
The thing about Turnstone is that it feels like someone actually thought about what travelers need, you know? Not in that corporate “we’ve analyzed the data” way, but more like your friend who travels constantly finally opened their own place. The rooms have these little touches – proper reading lights that actually work, enough outlets near the bed (revolutionary, I know), and windows that open wide enough to let in that sea air from the Hamel. You can hear the water if you listen, especially at night when the traffic dies down. I mean, you’re literally a few minutes’ walk from the waterfront, which beats being stuck in some industrial estate hotel by the A38.
What really got me was how quiet it stays, even though you’re close enough to Plymouth that you could pop over for dinner if you wanted. Torpoint gets written off as just a ferry town, but honestly – walk around Thanckes Park in the morning or grab a pint at one of the local spots, and you’ll see there’s more going on here. The staff actually knows the area too, which sounds basic but you’d be amazed how rare that is. They pointed me toward this little coastal path I never would’ve found otherwise, and parking was sorted without any drama (again, sounds simple but try finding decent parking in Fowey or St. Ives during summer).
The 9.9 rating isn’t one of those inflated numbers you see everywhere – after staying there, I get it. Everything just works the way it should. Check-in was smooth, the room was actually ready early, and when I had a question about ferry times, they knew off the top of their head instead of googling it in front of me. It’s that kind of competence that makes you want to come back, especially when you’re using it as a base for exploring the Rame Peninsula or heading into Cornwall proper. Plus, being honest here – it’s way better value than anything you’ll find across the water in Plymouth, and the location gives you that proper Cornwall feel without the tourist circus.

This property was truly great and catered to my whole family. We all found it very comfortable and it was like a home away from home
What could be improved: Nothing I can think of at this pointSamantha from United Kingdom – 9 April 2025 (10/10)
An amazing house, stunning views from every room, beautiful scenery, beach, and swimming. The check-in was smooth. Chantal was communicative throughout , and we will certainly be back.

The property is stunning and perfect for a family with teenagers! The hot tub and pool table made their weekend. The property is located a 2 minute walk from the beach which the Dog loved. The weather was superb and we were sat in shorts & T-shirt and was getting hot! That's in November.
There is nothing negative to say about the property. Will be staying again for sure.

Lovely set up and amazing view 😊
What could be improved: I liked everything was just perfectHon from United Kingdom – 29 April 2024 (9/10)
We absolutely loved the view from the living room and the master bedroom. The rooms were clean. Really liked the jacuzzi and the bathtub in the master bedroom had a fantastic view of the sea. Location of the place to the sea was great only a very short walk down hill. We did love going to the beach during low tide to spend time around the rock pools to see what was in them.
What could be improved: You do need a car to get around the area even though there is a bus service it's not that frequent. There was a lot of dog walkers on the beach sadly it looks like the owners do not clean up after the pets done the poos. Also sadly people were still taking there dogs to sections of the beach where it specifically says no dogs allowed.Carole from United Kingdom – 5 March 2024 (10/10)
Fabulous house..very well thought out.
Had everything from cooking utensils to hot tub.
Struggled a little with the smart TV….but we are technophobe and mature….but we got BBC 1Sandra from United Kingdom – 16 November 2024 (10/10)
We loved our stay, the house is beautiful, with stunning sea views and so much light and space with the big windows and high ceilings. When it's sunny, you get sunshine on the front of the house all day, making it a treat to sit on one of the balconies or the terrace. The hot tub on the terrace is fantastic. We also loved the bathroom to the master bedroom and the views from the bath. It was great to have use of the Spa, and we also booked a couple of massages during our stay – all fantastic. You do need a car to get around, there was not much open in November but we were so lucky in the weather, we loved it!
What could be improved: I'm afraid the sofas were not particularly comfortable. We are in our 50s and prefer a sofa with a higher back that suports the neck and head, but that's just us. It certainly wouldn't stop us from going back for another stay!Clare from United Kingdom – 16 February 2024 (9/10)
Amazing few days at this property. The views from the place are stunning. Being able to wake up and watch the sun rise over the sea from the bed was a treat.
The hot tub was lovely and we booked the sauna one evening. Also booked a massage with Chantell, which was amazing.
We had a few rainy days during our stay but having a place like this to hang out in made it easy- the kids were happy to stay in all day. The pool table was an added bonus.
What could be improved: The only reason i didn't leave 10 is that there was a fair bit of building work going on at the old hotel down the road. I know it's not the property's fault, but the diggers driving past created a load of noise.
