Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about Trevail Penthouse? Walking up to this converted Victorian building on Talland Road, I honestly wasn’t expecting much – I mean, it’s tucked away on this quiet residential street that most tourists probably walk right past. But stepping into that penthouse space… well, it completely changed my perspective on what a St Ives stay could be.
The thing about staying here is you’re actually living like a local rather than just another visitor crammed into the town center chaos. Talland Road sits just far enough from the madness of Fore Street (maybe a three-minute walk, tops) that you can escape the summer crowds but still grab morning pastries from that brilliant little bakery near the Malakoff without breaking a sweat. The penthouse itself sprawls across the top floor with these massive windows that frame the kind of views travel brochures try to capture but never quite manage – you’re looking out over the rooftops toward the harbor, catching glimpses of boats bobbing between the buildings. I spent way too many mornings just standing there with coffee, watching the light shift across the water.
What really makes this place work is how thoughtfully it’s been put together. The kitchen actually functions (shocking, I know, for holiday rentals), with proper appliances and enough counter space that you could honestly cook a decent meal if the mood strikes. The living area feels genuinely comfortable rather than that sterile “vacation rental” vibe you get so often – like someone actually lives here and wants you to feel at home. Parking was surprisingly painless too; there’s space right outside, which anyone who’s tried to navigate St Ives with a car will tell you is basically a minor miracle. The Wi-Fi held up beautifully when I needed to catch up on work (not that you’ll want to, but life happens), and the place stays remarkably quiet even during the peak summer insanity – apparently Victorian walls actually do something useful besides look pretty.
Honestly, the 9-star rating makes perfect sense once you’ve been there a few days. It’s not trying to be some flashy resort experience, but rather that rare find where everything just… works. You can walk to Porthmeor Beach in about five minutes when you want that classic St Ives beach scene, or head the other direction toward the Tate when the weather turns moody. The Sloop Inn’s practically around the corner for those nights when you can’t be bothered to cook, and you’re close enough to the coastal path that a morning run along the cliffs becomes almost too easy to skip. I mean, you’re paying for location and comfort here, and both deliver without any of the usual holiday rental headaches.

The views and the big windows in the lounge area! Juliet Balcony was a favourite of mine. Never seen one before and used it every day.
What could be improved: Not something anyone has control over but – The seagulls on the roof next to the master bedroom. Constantly going all day and night. Had to shut the windows even though it was so warm at night to try and shut out some of the noise. But we were by the seaside and with that, you get seagulls!Lisa from Switzerland – 6 June 2025 (8/10)
Loved everything about this property.
What could be improved: Just a bit odd not to have soap in the bathrooms. But that tells you everything … it would be my only upgrade.Catherine from Australia – 27 October 2024 (8/10)
We loved the accomodation! Fantastic location, car space and all the facilities you need
Anthony from United Kingdom – 16 March 2024 (9/10)
Great views. Really comfortable and warm. Free parking in designated space right opposite the house. Convenient for the many restaurants, beaches and galleries.
What could be improved: The key to the outer door was a little tricky but we found the required amount of wiggling in the end.Charity from United Kingdom – 22 September 2022 (6/10)
Good location but property really needs updating for a more luxurious vibe.
Birte from Germany – 18 June 2023 (8/10)
Seh komfortabel. Gute Ausstattung. wunderbare Aussicht.
Ashley from United Kingdom – 24 August 2024 (8/10)
