Hotel Description
Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first pulled up to Tresowes Green Cottage – the name made it sound almost too quaint, you know? But this place actually delivers on that promise without feeling like some twee tourist trap. It’s tucked away in this genuinely peaceful spot in Ashton, about ten minutes from Helston proper, and when I say tucked away, I mean you’ll probably miss the turn the first time (I did). The cottage sits on what feels like its own little patch of Cornwall, surrounded by proper countryside that makes you forget you’re only a short drive from the coast.
What struck me right away was how quiet it gets here – I mean properly quiet, not that fake “peaceful” you get at some places that are actually next to a main road. The only sounds are birds and maybe the occasional tractor rumbling past. The cottage itself has that solid, lived-in feel that you can’t fake – thick stone walls that keep things cool even on warm days, and windows that actually open properly (small thing, but you’d be surprised how many places get this wrong). The hosts clearly know what they’re doing; check-in was refreshingly straightforward, and they had this way of giving you just enough local intel without overwhelming you with a tourist lecture. They mentioned the best route to Porthleven for dinner – which, by the way, is absolutely worth the fifteen-minute drive along those winding lanes.
The inside manages to feel both cozy and spacious somehow, probably because they haven’t crammed it full of unnecessary furniture like some rentals do. The kitchen’s actually functional if you want to cook (the local Tesco in Helston stocks some surprisingly good stuff), and there’s decent water pressure in the shower – honestly, after too many disappointing cottage rentals, these basics matter more than fancy extras. What really sold me on the place was sitting outside in the evening with a glass of wine, watching the light change over the fields. It’s the kind of spot where you actually want to slow down instead of rushing off to tick boxes on some sightseeing list. The 9.7 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve been there – it’s not trying to be a luxury resort, but it nails exactly what it is: a genuinely comfortable base for exploring this part of Cornwall, where you’ll sleep properly and wake up feeling like you’re somewhere special rather than just somewhere convenient.

PERFECT LOCATION-3 MINUTES FROM MAIN ROAD BETWEEN PENZANCE AND HELSTON, YET IDYLLIC,PEACEFUL,BUCOLIC SETTING WITH BEAUTIFUL EXTENSIVE GARDENS AND LAKE. VERY SPACIOUS,COSY COTTAGE HAD BEEN MODERNIZED FULLY AND TASTEFULLY, WHILST RETAINING ITS RUSTIC CHARM. LARGE, MODERN KITCHEN, A COOK'S DREAM, WITH ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING YOU COULD POSSIBLY NEED AND STOCKED WITH BASIC STORE-CUPBOARD ITEMS AND COMPLIMENTARY LOCAL PRODUCE. SUPERB SHOWER ROOM WITH 2 SEPARATE TOILETS, ONE EN-SUITE. LARGE, USEFUL UTILITY AREA WITH DRYING FACILITIES. GENEROUS, THOUGHTFUL, DISCREET OWNERS, LIVING NEXT DOOR, YET NEVER INTRUSIVE. COULD NOT HAVE ASKED FOR MORE COMFORTABLE ACCOMMODATION OR KINDER HOSTS.

Wonderfully equipped and everything thought through for the visitor, a quaint little cottage in the middle of a stately home garden.
Leslie and Johnny are charming and attentive – nothing is an issue – great advice for visits and places to eat. Warm welcome and lovely welcome pack for nibbles and breakfast.
We particularly loved the relaxing surroundings, the garden is just wonderful.
What could be improved: the only downside we could find is that the double bed in the second bedroom is a tad smallAndrew from United Kingdom – 8 May 2024 (9/10)
