Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Trenderway Farm, I thought it might be one of those places that’s trying too hard to be “authentic countryside.” You know, all rustic charm but with WiFi that barely works and beds that feel like they haven’t been updated since 1985. Well, I was completely wrong about this one.

The thing about Trenderway is that it actually feels like someone’s gorgeous home that they just happen to let other people stay in. It’s tucked away in the hills above Looe – and I mean properly tucked away, not just “quiet location” marketing speak. You’ll wind through some seriously narrow Cornish lanes to get there (honestly, pray you don’t meet a tractor coming the other way), but once you arrive, you understand why they earned those five stars. The setting is ridiculous – rolling fields stretching down toward the coast, and on clear days you can actually catch glimpses of the sea. The silence at night is almost jarring if you’re used to city life, broken only by the occasional sheep having opinions about something.

What really gets me is the attention to detail that you only notice after you’ve been there a day or two. The coffee is properly good – not that instant stuff you sometimes get at country places. The beds are massive and comfortable, with those thick Cornish stone walls keeping everything cool in summer and cozy in winter. And the owners clearly know their stuff about the area. They’ll point you toward the best bits of the South West Coast Path (the section toward Polperro is absolutely stunning but pack layers – the wind off the channel can be brutal), or steer you away from Looe town center during peak summer madness when the day-trippers descend. Actually, staying here means you can enjoy Looe early in the morning or late afternoon when it’s just the locals and a handful of other visitors who know better.

The breakfast situation deserves its own mention – proper Cornish ingredients, nothing fancy or pretentious, just really well-done food that’ll fuel you for a day of coastal walking or exploring the Eden Project (which is about 45 minutes away, traffic depending). Parking is never an issue, which honestly feels like a luxury when you’ve spent time in some of Cornwall’s more popular spots where you’re circling for ages looking for a space. The whole operation feels effortless in that way that only comes from people who’ve been doing this for years and genuinely care about getting it right. That 9.3 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve experienced it – it’s the kind of place that makes you want to book your next visit before you’ve even checked out.
