Hotel Description

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Trelowen Cottage – I mean, it’s tucked away in this tiny hamlet called Trevigro that you’d honestly miss if you blinked while driving through. But honestly, that’s exactly what makes this place so brilliant. It’s one of those proper Cornish stone cottages that looks like it’s been there forever (and probably has), sitting quietly in the countryside just outside Callington where you can actually hear yourself think.

The thing about staying here is that you really feel like you’re getting an authentic slice of Cornwall, not some sanitized hotel version of it. The cottage has been done up beautifully – I’m talking exposed beams, slate floors, the works – but it doesn’t feel precious or museum-like. You can actually relax without worrying about breaking something expensive. The rooms are what you’d call cozy rather than massive, but everything’s been thought through properly. Good lighting for reading, decent water pressure (always a gamble in old buildings), and beds that don’t leave you aching in the morning. Plus there’s proper parking right there, which anyone who’s tried to navigate narrow Cornish lanes with a hire car will appreciate.

What really sold me on the place was how perfectly positioned it is for exploring this part of Cornwall without dealing with tourist crowds. Callington’s got everything you need – decent pubs, shops, that sort of thing – but you’re also perfectly placed to hop over to Dartmoor if you fancy a change of scenery, or head down to the coast at Looe or Polperro. The hosts actually know the area inside and out, so you get proper recommendations, not just the obvious tourist spots. They pointed me toward this incredible walk along the Lynher Valley that I never would have found otherwise. The whole experience just feels genuine, you know? Like staying with friends who happen to live in one of the most beautiful parts of the country. At nearly a 10 out of 10 rating, I’d say other guests have figured this out too – but thankfully it’s still feels like a bit of a secret.

Everything. Extremly quiet and private location. Big private and safe parking space. Great spacious cottage, big well equipped kitchen and big dining room, two sleeping rooms with good and comfortable beds. Big private outside area. Good WiFi. Very friendly and helpful hosts. The place is fully recommended, we stayed two weeks and we like to come back.

A lovely cottage/barn conversion, fully furnished with bed linen and towels provided as well as other essentials such as shampoo, body wash alongside bread, milk and dishwasher tablets.
Highly recommend although location down very narrow country roads need to be considered!

Space for our dogs to run.

  • Anna from United Kingdom – 3 January 2025 (10/10)

What a cozy cottage 🥰 Exceptionally clean & warm on arrival. The hosts very friendly and extremely helpful. Very dog friendly and well equipped in essentials, including fresh milk and butter 🙂 Ideal for a quiet family stay in rural location. Just what we needed!

What could be improved: The only downsides (if you can call it that) was the changing water pressure in the shower and the smell of manure from the owner’s farm nearby – BUT if you’re choosing a rural stay, it’s what you should expect!

  • Egidijus from United Kingdom – 27 October 2024 (10/10)

    Perfect!

  • Lesley from United Kingdom – 12 October 2024 (10/10)

The welcome was lovely. A very welcome food pack of essentials

What could be improved: I had an issue of flies, especially in the main bedroom, each day/night and kitchen that I had to clean out and dispose of. They also made their way to hall, stairs and landing
