Hotel Description

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Tregwary Cottage on Orchard Place – I mean, it’s tucked away on this quiet residential street in Newlyn that you’d probably miss if you weren’t specifically looking for it. But you know what? That’s actually part of its charm. While everyone else is fighting for parking near the harbor front, you’re settled into this peaceful little corner that feels more like staying at a friend’s place than a typical hotel.

The cottage itself is one of those converted Cornish properties that’s been done right – and I can’t stress enough how rare that is down here. Someone clearly put thought into keeping the character while making it actually comfortable for modern travelers. The rooms have that perfect balance of old stone walls and exposed beams without feeling like you’re sleeping in a museum. What really got me was the attention to detail – proper thick towels, a coffee setup that doesn’t involve those terrible pod machines, and windows that actually open properly (you’d be surprised how many places get that wrong). The WiFi’s solid too, which matters if you’re trying to upload photos of the stunning harbor views you’ll get from the upper floors.

Location-wise, you’re about a five-minute walk down to Newlyn’s working harbor, which is brilliant for morning coffee runs to one of the cafés along the front. The fish market’s right there too – if you’re into that sort of thing, get there early because the action starts around 6 AM. What I really love about staying here versus somewhere in St. Ives or even Penzance proper is that you’re experiencing actual Cornwall, not the tourist version. You’ll hear the seagulls and the boats coming in, but you won’t have crowds of daytrippers wandering past your window at all hours. Plus, honestly, the parking situation is so much easier – there’s usually space on the street, and you don’t have to pay those ridiculous daily rates they charge closer to the main attractions. The bus into Penzance runs regularly if you don’t fancy driving, and it’s maybe a 20-minute coastal walk to Mousehole if the weather’s decent. That 9.6 rating isn’t inflated either – I’ve stayed at plenty of places that talk a big game but can’t deliver basics like hot water pressure or quiet nights, and this place just gets it right without making a fuss about it.

The cottage is beautiful in character and decoration.
    All needs met. Very clean.
    Exceptional helpful host.

  • Amydestinova from Czech Republic – 7 May 2025 (10/10)

The host sent us very helpful and detailed information about everything we needed in advance. The accommodation had everything we required. It was clean and cozy. It's a wonderful place. The self-service key pickup worked well, which we really appreciated given our late check-in and early check-out. We parked the car in the designated parking area and never had any issues—it's just a short walk from the accommodation.

What could be improved: Everything was great, there's nothing to complain about.

  • Jane from United Kingdom – 10 March 2025 (10/10)

We loved the cottage, full of character and yet also furnished to a very high standard, tasteful and contemporary, providing everything we needed for comfort and convenience. So many details had been thoughtfully considered. The place was spotlessly clean throughout and was also warm and welcoming, having arrived in chilly March! The cottage is in a quiet, characterful little cobbled lane, close to the harbour yet tucked away and peaceful. No cars, so we had to park in a nearby car park – it pays to travel light!! – but the cottage is delightful enough to be worth carrying a bit of luggage.
Natasha communicates very well and was very helpful with the occasional query beforehand – immediately answered.
We would highly recommend this beautiful cottage and very much enjoyed our stay.
    Thank you, Natasha!

  • Alfie from United Kingdom – 2 January 2024 (10/10)

Perfect for a family or couples. The host has thought of almost everything and taken care of all the details. The kitchen is equipped with tea, coffee, and all the basics. The bedrooms and living rooms are comfortable and cosy with bed linen. The bathroom is modern with towels provided but you need to bring toiletries and shower gels. Plenty of locals pubs, a Co-op, coffee shops and restaurants all in walking distance. Finally when I needed something, the host was always happy to help and responsive.

What could be improved: Everything was great!

Amazing location in the heart of historic Newlyn

What could be improved: Public transport in the area is tricky.

  • Jon from United Kingdom – 24 October 2023 (9/10)

Location was excellent, very close to shops and restaurants

What could be improved: Parking was either in car parks or free spaces which were a short walk, we though there was parking on site but there wasnt so that could have been clearer

  • Robin from Australia – 18 May 2023 (10/10)
