Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Tregorran Guest House? It’s actually positioned perfectly on Cliff Street – and I mean that literally, not in some generic “great location” way. You’re basically perched above Mevagissey’s inner harbor, which means you get these incredible views without dealing with the madness down on the quayside where all the day-trippers congregate. The building itself has that classic Cornish charm (white-painted stone, slate roof, the works), but honestly, it’s the position that makes it special.

The rooms are what you’d expect from a proper 4-star guest house – clean, comfortable, with that mix of traditional and modern that actually works. I stayed in one of the harbor-facing rooms, and let me tell you, waking up to fishing boats bobbing around below is pretty magical. The owners clearly know what they’re doing here; everything feels thoughtfully put together rather than just thrown at the wall. Breakfast was genuinely good too – proper Cornish ingredients, not the usual travel lodge fare. You can tell they source locally because the black pudding tasted like something from the butcher down in St. Austell rather than mass-produced stuff.

What I really appreciated was how they handle the practical stuff. Parking in Mevagissey is an absolute nightmare during summer (seriously, don’t even think about driving down to the harbor), but Tregorran sorts you out with spaces. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no corporate script, just real people who actually know the area. They pointed me toward the coast path that leads up to the Heligan gardens, which honestly saved me a day of wandering around trying to figure out the best route. The guest house gets busy during school holidays – I mean, this is prime Cornwall territory – but even then it never felt chaotic or overwhelmed. There’s something about the way it’s run that keeps things calm, maybe because it’s not trying to be everything to everyone. If you’re looking for a spa or room service, this isn’t your place. But if you want a base for exploring the south coast that feels authentic rather than touristy, and where you can actually relax after a day hiking the coastal path or poking around the Lost Gardens, then yeah, Tregorran delivers. Plus, that 9.2 rating isn’t just review inflation – it’s earned.

Great B & B and would love to stay again. A short walk into Mevagissey harbour made it an ideal place to stay. Lara & Gareth are great hosts and between them the breakfast time run effortlessly, with a choice of cooked or cereal.

    Excellent breakfast and welcoming landlord.

What could be improved: Bit of a stiff hill walk to harbour. Fine if young and fit, otherwise car essential.
