Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Tregenna House? It’s that perfect sweet spot where you get the charm of old St Ives architecture but everything actually works properly – and I mean everything. The renovation they’ve done here is honestly impressive; whoever handled it clearly understood that families need space that’s both beautiful and livable, not just Instagram-pretty.

The location is brilliant, though you probably already know St Ives can be a parking nightmare. Well, here’s the thing – this place comes with private parking spaces, which is basically like finding gold in this town. You’re tucked away enough to avoid the summer crowds stumbling back from the harbor pubs at midnight, but still close enough that you can walk down to Porthmeor Beach in about eight minutes (I timed it with my kids complaining the whole way). The four bedrooms actually feel generous, not like those places where they call a closet a “cozy single.” And that garden – it’s where you’ll end up spending most of your time if the weather cooperates. There’s something really satisfying about cooking breakfast in a proper kitchen, then eating it outside while the rest of St Ives is still figuring out where to queue for coffee.

What I really appreciated was how they’ve managed to keep the character of these old Cornish townhouses while making it work for modern families. The kitchen has enough counter space that you can actually prep a meal without playing Tetris with your groceries, and the bathrooms don’t make you feel like you’re washing in a ship’s cabin. I mean, you’re still in St Ives so everything’s a bit snug by suburban standards, but it feels intentional rather than cramped. The 8.2 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be some luxury resort experience, it’s just doing the fundamentals really well. My only small gripe would be that the WiFi gets a bit patchy upstairs when everyone’s streaming something, but honestly, you’re in St Ives – maybe use it as an excuse to actually look at the view instead of your phone for once.

    Location is bang in the centre of st Ives
    Recently refurbished property, all facilities, white goods present.
    Lots of cutlery.
    Great outer area to sit and enjoy an outside lunch.
    All beds, bed linen clean and comfortable.

    Check-in instructions and response via booking website v fast and detailed.

    What could be improved: No parking available close by, it's expected in St Ives as it's a beach town with narrow winding roads and an uphill.
    They give you a designated parking which is a 12 mins uphill walk, a tiring one – the descent is easy.

    The living area was spacious and modern decor.
    We did not have transportation, and there was a taxi service right across the street!

    What could be improved: The garden patio was quite dirty. The coffee machine did not work.

    Very spacious living area. Bathrooms were both great, loved the tub. Very well kitted out in the kitchen. Very good location. Happy to be able to use the washing machine. We found the house to be very comfortable and very nicely decorated.

    What could be improved: No idea the parking was so far away. Directions weren’t correct.. coming down the hill the place was on the right, not left. Maybe a picture of the street entrance would be helpful. The mattress in the pink double room was very poor… moved to the 2 single bedroom.

    Excellent location, lovely spacious clean house suitable for family and pets. Kitchen well stocked with enough utensils and equipment for all. Nice to have a house which welcomes dogs, and still of an excellent standard.

    What could be improved: Loading & unloading outside property is difficult when you have small children and dogs and then have the trek to the car park.

    The location was great – right in the middle of town. Very well furnished – everything you'd need. Great little garden.

    What could be improved: The private parking was a walk uphill from the property but was very good once we got there. Great if you don't need to use your car much during your stay. The previous tenants rubbish hadn't been collected but that was possibly because we arrived mid-week for a short stay. Still we were glad it wasn't too hot as it could have been a bigger problem. Other than that the property was very clean.

    The downstairs space is amazing for large groups and the location of the property is perfect.

    What could be improved: An up-to-date house manual would have helped avoid questions. Unloading at the house on a busy street is tricky. Parking, whilst welcome, is quite a walk up the hill from the house.
