I’ll be honest – I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Tolcarne Beach Apartments. The name sounds pretty standard, you know? But honestly, this place completely caught me off guard in the best way possible. Right when you walk in, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually cares about the details here. The lobby isn’t trying too hard to impress, but everything feels thoughtfully put together – sort of like staying at a friend’s place who happens to have really good taste.
What really gets me about this spot is the location situation. I mean, you’re literally steps from Tolcarne Beach, which (and locals will back me up on this) is one of the quieter stretches compared to the main Newquay madness around Fistral. You can actually hear the waves from most of the apartments, especially at night when things calm down. During the day, you’ve got this perfect setup where you can pop down to the beach in two minutes, but you’re not dealing with the constant stream of surfers and beach crowds that hit the more central spots. The apartments themselves feel properly lived-in rather than sterile – good kitchens that actually work, decent WiFi (tested it extensively, naturally), and windows that open wide enough to get that proper sea breeze going.
Here’s what I really appreciate though – the staff seems to get that people want information, not just pleasantries. They’ll tell you which restaurants are worth it (head toward the town center for proper Cornish pasties, skip the touristy spots right on the beach front), when the tides are best for walking, even which parking spots to grab if you’re driving around town. Speaking of parking, there’s decent space here, which honestly is half the battle in Newquay during summer. The whole setup works particularly well if you’re planning to explore beyond just the beach – you’re close enough to walk into town when you want the energy and nightlife, but far enough out that you can actually get some sleep. I stayed during what they call shoulder season (late spring), and it hit that sweet spot where everything was open but not completely packed. The 9.4 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there a few days – it’s not flashy or Instagram-perfect, but everything just… works. You know what I mean? It’s the kind of place where you start planning your next visit before you’ve even checked out.

The Tolcarne Beach Apartments were gorgeous. Beautifully located on the beach with great facilities. The apartment was exceptionally clean, very well presented and had everything you could need to make your stay comfortable. Highly recommend Tolcarne Beach Apartments.
What could be improved: The property itself could not be faulted however finding and accessing the property was difficult. The access road looks like a pathway and there is no signage to indicate that the path is a road that leads to the carpark and apartments. Google/Apple Maps do not pick the path up as a road, it took asking locals and then walking to the property to find out how to get in. As a suggestion, detailed access instructions could be sent as part of the checkin confirmation email along with a warning on the narrowness of the road, this would make finding how to get into the property so much easier.Alexandr from United Kingdom – 1 June 2025 (10/10)

This place is a hidden gem. This was our second stay and everything about the place is so well done. Incredible views, easy access to the beach, restaurants and groceries near by. The apartment is well equipped and spacious for our family of 5. Friendly staff.

The restaurant next to the apartments was absolutely incredible with delicious food! Every single staff member were so kind and really cared about your experience.
The people in reception were all brilliant and really helpful with any questions we had. Even the little things like keeping my baby's car seat in there while we went onto the beach so we didn't have to worry about taking it.
The apartments we're absolutely spotless and had everything you need, even down to a basket of towels in case you needed them. I cannot fault the property or staff in any way.
What could be improved: The road leading down to the car park is extremely tight and as a new driver it was very daunting. But that is to be expected because of the location and obviously something that can't be helped! Just definitely something to keep in mind if you're an anxious driver!
