I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to The Trelinda Guest House on St Georges Road, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s one of those classic Newquay streets lined with Victorian terraces that have been converted into B&Bs, and you know how hit-or-miss those can be. But walking through the front door, I actually had one of those “oh, this is different” moments. The place has this warm, lived-in elegance that immediately tells you the owners actually care about what they’re doing.

What really struck me was how they’ve managed to keep the character of the old building while making everything feel fresh and comfortable. The rooms have those lovely high ceilings you get in Victorian houses, but the beds are properly modern and honestly some of the most comfortable I’ve slept in. There’s this attention to detail that you don’t always find – like decent shower pressure (seriously underrated until you don’t have it), blackout curtains that actually work, and bedside tables big enough for your phone, book, and that cup of tea you inevitably end up with. The breakfast room overlooks the street, and I found myself lingering there in the mornings watching Newquay wake up – dog walkers heading toward the coastal path, surfers with boards strapped to their cars making early starts for Fistral.

Speaking of location, this is where The Trelinda really shines. St Georges Road puts you right in that sweet spot where you’re close enough to walk into town (about five minutes to the main shopping area), but far enough up the hill that you escape the late-night noise from the pubs. I mean, Newquay can get pretty lively during summer evenings, so this matters more than you might think. You’re also perfectly positioned for the coastal walks – Towan Beach is literally a three-minute stroll downhill, and if you’re feeling energetic, the South West Coast Path stretches out in both directions. The owners – and this is the kind of local knowledge that makes a difference – actually gave me proper directions to the quieter sections of beach where you can escape the crowds, even in peak season. Parking can be a bit tight on the street itself, but there’s usually space on the neighboring roads, and they’re pretty helpful about suggesting alternatives. What really sealed it for me was the genuine warmth of the place. It’s got that rare quality where it feels like staying with friends who happen to run an exceptionally well-organized household, rather than just another commercial transaction.
