Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about The Pityme Inn? I was expecting another standard countryside hotel, but this place on Rock Road actually has some character to it. It’s tucked away in St. Minver – honestly, if you don’t know the area around Wadebridge, you might drive right past it at first. But that’s sort of the charm, I suppose. The 4-star rating isn’t just marketing fluff either; they’ve clearly put thought into the details without going overboard with fancy nonsense.
The thing is, once you’re settled in, you realize why this spot works so well. You’re basically fifteen minutes from Padstow (and trust me, that matters when you want proper Cornish seafood), but you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos that comes with staying right in town. Rock Beach is practically on your doorstep – I mean, it’s a short walk down winding lanes that feel properly Cornish, not like some sanitized holiday park setup. The rooms themselves are comfortable without trying too hard to be boutique-y, if that makes sense. Good beds, decent bathrooms, and they’ve managed to keep things quiet even when the place is full. Parking’s straightforward too, which anyone who’s tried to navigate Cornish village streets with a rental car will appreciate.
What really sold me on the place was talking to the staff – they actually know the area and can point you toward things like the best tide times for Rock Beach or which footpaths to take if you want to walk to Daymer Bay without getting lost. The breakfast is solid (proper local stuff, not just generic hotel fare), and honestly, at an 8.3 rating, they’re doing something right. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Cornwall, but it gets the fundamentals spot-on. If you’re planning to explore the Camel Estuary area or use it as a base for the coastal path, this works brilliantly. Just don’t expect nightlife on your doorstep – this is more about waking up refreshed and heading out to explore some of the best bits of North Cornwall.

The Pityme is in a great location to start walks on the south west coast paths. The pub was handy to have meals in as well. The rooms were well equipped with everything including fresh milk given to us on arrival, with a small fridge to keep it in. There's also an iron and a hairdryer in the spacious wardrobe. Hosts were very welcoming and knew that we'd stayed there before.
