Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about The Paris Hotel? The name’s a bit cheeky for a place that’s about as far from the Champs-Élysées as you can get – but honestly, that’s part of its charm. Tucked right into The Cove in Coverack, this 4-star spot has that slightly weathered Cornish character that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled onto something the guidebooks haven’t completely ruined yet. The building itself has this lovely stone facade that’s clearly seen a few decades of salt air, and when you’re checking in, you can actually hear the waves hitting the rocks below. I mean, you’re literally staying in one of those picture-perfect fishing villages where the harbor’s so small you could probably throw a stone across it.
What really gets me about this place is how it manages to feel properly local without being rustic to the point of discomfort. The rooms are genuinely nice – clean lines, decent bathrooms, and most importantly, windows that actually open so you can fall asleep to the sound of the tide. The staff seem to know everyone in the village (which, let’s be honest, probably isn’t that hard since Coverack’s got what, maybe 300 residents?), and they’ll point you toward the best spots for crabbing or tell you when the tide’s right for exploring the rock pools. Parking’s straightforward enough – there’s space behind the hotel, though it fills up quick during the summer months when the place gets a bit mental with day-trippers from Falmouth and Truro.
The real magic happens when you step outside, though. You’re right on the South West Coast Path, so if you’re into walking, you can head toward Kennack Sands (gorgeous beach, about an hour’s hike) or go the other direction toward Lowland Point. The village pub – The Paris Inn, keeping with the theme – is literally a two-minute walk, and their fish and chips are the kind that make you understand why people drive down from London for weekend breaks. I’ll be straight with you, Coverack isn’t exactly buzzing with nightlife, but that 8.4 rating this place pulls makes sense when you consider what you’re actually here for. It’s about waking up to fishing boats bobbing in the harbor, having proper Cornish pasties from the village shop, and feeling like you’ve found one of those spots that hasn’t been completely polished for tourists yet. The hotel gets that balance right – comfortable enough that you’re not roughing it, but authentic enough that you feel like you’re experiencing the real Cornwall, not some sanitized version of it.
