Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about The Old Post House? It’s actually in a converted Victorian post office on this quiet residential street in St Just, and honestly, you’d walk right past it if you weren’t looking – which is sort of perfect, because it means you’re not dealing with tour buses or crowds of people taking selfies outside your window.
The whole place feels like staying at your most tasteful friend’s house, if that friend happened to have impeccable design sense and knew exactly how to make a proper Cornish breakfast. I mean, this is proper 5-star territory but without any of that stuffy hotel nonsense. The rooms are what you’d expect from a place with a 9.5 rating – everything works perfectly, the beds are the kind you sink into after a day tramping around the coastal paths, and there’s this attention to detail that makes you notice things like the quality of the towels and the fact that the shower actually has decent water pressure (you’d be surprised how rare that is in some of these old buildings). The owners clearly know what they’re doing – they’ve managed to keep all the character of the original building while making sure modern travelers are comfortable.
What really sets this place apart though is the location in St Just itself. Look, everyone goes to St Ives or Padstow, but St Just is where you go when you want to feel like you’ve discovered something. You’re literally a ten-minute walk from some of the most dramatic coastline in Cornwall – I’m talking about the proper wild stuff, not the pretty postcard beaches. The South West Coast Path runs right through here, and you can walk to Botallack Mine (those iconic engine houses perched on the cliffs that show up in every Poldark episode) or head the other way toward Land’s End, though honestly the walk there is better than the actual destination. The town itself is small enough that you’ll recognize faces after a day or two, and there’s something refreshingly authentic about the whole place – the local pub serves decent food, there’s a proper bakery, and people actually live here year-round rather than it being some sort of summer playground. Parking isn’t a nightmare like it is in the bigger towns, and you’re close enough to Penzance (about 20 minutes by car) when you need proper shops or want to catch the Scillonian to the Isles of Scilly. The owners will point you toward the best spots – they’ve got that local knowledge that makes all the difference between a good trip and one of those holidays you’re still talking about years later.

Excellent vegetarian breakfast with selection of yogurts, eggs, hot cereals and fruit available and well prepared. French press coffee and good selection of teas. Fiona and Dominic are great hosts and will really make you feel welcome. Fiona graciously shared her extensive knowledge of the Cornwall area and helped us plan our days according to the weather. She also provided laminated maps of ancient sites, walking trails and other things to do. Very nicely done and really useful. Several dining options and pubs just 5 minutes walking distance and a fun town center. Everyone we met was genuinely nice and willing to repeat what they said so our American ears could understand it. Cornwall is absolutely beautiful and all the folks we met along the way were great.
What could be improved: All around a very nice option for staying in Cornwall.Susan from United Kingdom – 16 June 2025 (9/10)
It is a historical granite building, with original features throughout the interior. Pretty garden and quiet location.
What could be improved: Nothing. We were allocated a private but separate bathroom which is unusual. It was perfectly good a comfy dressing gowns were provided for the four footsteps across the landing.Susan from Australia – 9 June 2025 (9/10)
This was a lovely little B&B in a typical Cornish town. The hosts were great, they found out we had a booking for a concert at the open air Minack Theatre on the cliffs & provided us with cushions & blankets (which were greatfully accepted and also needed, even though it was Summer, the weather was perfect and the sea was like glass!). Breakfast was also good and timed so that they can give each guest the attention the hosts would like to provide. Car parking is around the corner in a free public car parking area & is perfectly safe. It's a 5 minute walk into St Just where there are shops, some galleries & pubs. It's also a short drive to other areas such as Penzance, St Ives.
What could be improved: No negatives about this B&B, you just need to be aware of the tiny Cornish roads & lanes when you're driving around.Belinda from New Zealand – 29 May 2025 (9/10)
Our host was lovely and very informative to help navigate the area and helping out with walks that we could do. The room was beautifully presented and the dining room and tables were set up very well with particular attention to detail. The breakfast selection was amazing and very nice. Loads of printed information to read. Easy to find and check in a breeze as we happened to turn up early and our hosts lets us in. Parking was a close 2min walk around the corner and free and the pubs, shops etc were a 5min walk away.

Well located to walk sections of the coastal track. Loved the village, friendly locals, the art gallery, the old mine sites along the coast.
What could be improved: Nothing, it was a great location.Galina from United States – 19 May 2025 (10/10)
Superior experience! Truly home cooked breakfast! We were surprised to find a relaxation room which we used for yoga.
