Hotel Description
You know what? I had no idea what to expect when I first pulled up to The Old Egg Shed in Week Saint Mary – I mean, the name alone had me curious. But honestly, this place completely surprised me in the best way possible. It’s tucked away in the Cornish countryside, about a twenty-minute drive from Bude if you’re coming from the coast, and the setting is just… well, it’s properly peaceful. The building itself has this wonderful rustic charm that actually feels authentic rather than trying too hard – you can tell it really was an old farm building that’s been lovingly converted. The 4-star rating feels spot on, and that 9.3 guest score? Yeah, I get it now.
What really struck me was how thoughtfully everything’s been done. The interior manages to feel both cozy and spacious, with exposed beams and these lovely little touches that make it clear someone who actually cares runs this place. The kitchen is properly equipped (not just a kettle and mini-fridge situation), which is brilliant if you’ve been to the farmers market in Holsworthy – it’s only about ten minutes away and has incredible local produce on Wednesdays. Parking is easy, thank goodness, because you know how tricky that can be in some of these converted properties. The bed was genuinely comfortable too, none of that rock-hard or too-soft nonsense you sometimes get. Actually, the whole place is surprisingly quiet considering you’re in farming country – I was worried about early morning tractors or livestock, but it wasn’t an issue at all.
The location is actually perfect if you want to explore this bit of Cornwall without the summer crowds you get down in Padstow or St. Ives. You’re close enough to nip down to Widemouth Bay for a proper beach day (maybe half an hour in the car), but you can also explore the Tamar Valley or even pop over the Devon border easily. Week Saint Mary itself is tiny but charming – there’s a decent pub, The Old Inn, within walking distance if you fancy a pint and don’t want to drive. The owners clearly know the area well and left some great recommendations, including a fantastic cream tea spot I never would have found otherwise. I mean, you’re not exactly in the thick of things here, but that’s sort of the point, isn’t it? It’s the kind of place where you can actually unwind and remember why you wanted to get away from everything in the first place. If you’re looking for that authentic Cornwall experience without the tourist chaos – and don’t mind being a bit remote – The Old Egg Shed really delivers.

I absolutely love everything about the Old Egg Shed. Everything you could ever need and more.
The fresh milk, cream and scones as a welcome gift along with biscuits, tea, sugar and coffee are just a few of the extra bits that make this special place so wonderful.
I love coming back this this beautiful location as it feels like coming home. Thank you Jo & Dave for the wonderful stay.Ashley from United Kingdom – 26 March 2025 (8/10)
Spacious and well equipped.
What could be improved: No blackout curtains, or velux blind so woken by bright light. And the bed was uncomfortable for myself. Sofa was worn.James from United Kingdom – 10 February 2025 (9/10)

The quiet rural location. The accommodation was exceptional, very modern, and had all the mod cons you could ask for, as well as the extra special touches like homemade scones and biscuits, tea towels, and even little pots of tea, coffee & sugar. The hot tub was clean & quite new, so a lot quieter than most hot tubs we have been in.
The owners were exceptionally helpful, and nothing was too much trouble. Our dog could get under the gate leading into the garden, I mentioned it, and they put extra wood on the bottom so that I could freely let my dog off the lead without him getting out.
It was so calm and tranquil and really comfy and homely. We can't wait to return for another visit.
Thank you to Jo & Dave for our wonderful break ❤️
What could be improved: The only thing which was only a little annoying was the front door had dropped so quite difficult to open & close.Marilyn from United Kingdom – 8 September 2024 (10/10)
Ideal location for us. Clean and comfortable. Well equipped. Welcome pack was great and kept us going till we could get to shops. Hot tub was a bonus. A great place to stay if you want quiet and serenity. The only downside was a lot of flies within the property and a lot of wasps on the patio which would indicate a wasps nest nearby but other than that an EGGcellent place to stay and would recommend it.
What could be improved: Nothing really.Richard from United Kingdom – 31 August 2024 (9/10)
Really comfortable, clean and practical for our stay. The property is really well furnished and finished. Some nice little welcoming touches from the owners as well.
Hot tub a big bonus..
