You know how some hotels just feel right the moment you walk in? The Old Bridge House is one of those places. Sitting right on The Quay in West Looe, it’s literally perched over the water – and I mean literally, not in that exaggerated way people usually say it. When you’re having breakfast, you can watch the fishing boats heading out and the little passenger ferries chugging back and forth to East Looe. The building itself has this weathered stone charm that makes you feel like you’re staying in someone’s well-loved family home rather than a generic hotel.

What really gets me about this place is how they’ve managed to keep the character while actually making it comfortable. The rooms aren’t massive – this is a historic building after all, so don’t expect modern hotel sprawl – but they’re thoughtfully done. Mine had these thick stone walls that kept things wonderfully quiet, even with the harbor activity right below. The staff genuinely seem to know the area, too. When I asked about walking the coastal path, the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a pamphlet – he actually drew a little map showing where to park near Talland Bay and which pub in Polperro has the best crab sandwiches. Small thing, but it matters.

Honestly, the location is what seals the deal here. You’re right in the heart of old Looe, so you can walk to pretty much everything – the beach, the restaurants along Fore Street, that brilliant little independent bookshop that somehow stays open year-round. Parking can be a bit of a dance during summer (the hotel has a few spaces, but they go fast), though if you’re exploring Cornwall by foot like most people do, you probably won’t need your car much once you arrive. The 9.2 rating makes total sense when you experience the whole package – it’s not trying to be fancy in that Instagram way, but everything just works. The kind of place where you end up staying longer than planned because leaving feels like abandoning a good friend.
