Hotel Description
Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of coastal hotels, but The Lizard Bluewater in Helston really caught me off guard – and I mean that in the best way possible. You know how sometimes you book a place based on photos and location, then show up expecting to be underwhelmed? Well, this wasn’t one of those times. The moment you pull up (parking’s actually decent, which is saying something for Cornwall), you realize this place sits in one of those spots that makes you understand why people move to the peninsula and never leave.
What really got me was how they’ve managed to feel both polished and genuinely Cornish at the same time. I mean, it’s got that 4-star polish you’d expect – everything works, the Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and honestly, the beds are some of the most comfortable I’ve encountered in the UK. But it doesn’t feel like it could be anywhere else, you know? The staff actually know the area, not just the rehearsed recommendations most hotel people give you. When I asked about walking the coastal path, the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a generic leaflet – he sketched out which sections would be muddy after the recent rain and mentioned this little café in Lizard village that most tourists miss completely. That 9.4 rating starts making sense when you realize it’s these small touches that add up.
The location’s the real winner though. Helston might not sound glamorous if you’re not familiar with Cornwall, but you’re actually perfectly positioned here. You’re close enough to the Lizard Peninsula’s dramatic coastline that you can be at Kynance Cove in about twenty minutes, but far enough from the summer crowds that you can actually move around without feeling like you’re in a theme park. I stayed in late September, which turned out to be perfect timing – still warm enough for proper coastal walks, but the August madness had died down. The hotel gets busy during school holidays (I’d imagine it’s absolutely heaving in July), but there’s something nice about how it settles into a quieter rhythm during shoulder season. Honestly, after a day of exploring the coastal paths and maybe grabbing lunch in one of the fishing villages, coming back to a place that’s comfortable without being stuffy felt just right. It’s the sort of place that makes you want to book an extra night, which – let’s be honest – is exactly what happened to me.

Nice, clean caravan with lots of space for whole family. Being on the site, which is close to the bus route, is definitely a bonus.

What could be improved: We didn't like the site. We found it too expensive even after paying for passes.Gemini from United Kingdom – 27 August 2024 (10/10)
Really lovely accommodation, clean, had a great shower and was well equipped. Staff were friendly and well organised. Evening entertainment was good and the park was close to local attractions, it was great for our kids.
What could be improved: Drinks and entertainment were expensive.Nish from United Kingdom – 20 August 2024 (10/10)
The chalet is in a lovely peaceful location (away from the busier areas of the park). The owners were responsive and helpful. The place is clean and has everything you need. It's located within the Park Dean resort so on the rainier days we were able to book activities in for the kids without having to buy a full week pass. We also had access to the pool on the park which was perfect.
