Hotel Description
Honestly, when I first spotted The Little Lighthouse tucked into The Square in Pentewan, I wasn’t expecting much – I mean, the name sounds almost too cute, right? But this place actually delivers on what it promises, and that two-minute beach claim isn’t just marketing fluff. You can literally hear the waves from some of the rooms, and I found myself doing that quick morning walk to the sand more times than I care to admit.
What really struck me about this place is how they’ve managed to feel properly coastal without going overboard with the nautical theme (you know how some seaside hotels can get a bit… anchor-heavy). The building itself has this lovely weathered character that fits perfectly with Pentewan’s low-key vibe – it’s not trying to be flashy St. Ives or bustling Newquay, which is exactly why it works. The staff actually know the area too, not just the standard tourist spots. When I mentioned wanting to avoid the weekend crowds at the main beach, they pointed me toward the quieter stretch near the old harbour wall that I never would’ve found otherwise. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, and they were realistic about parking – yes, The Square can get a bit tight during peak season, but there’s usually something within a reasonable walk.
The rooms hit that sweet spot between comfortable and characterful. Mine had this brilliant view across to the village green (well, The Square really), and I could watch the daily rhythm of local life – dog walkers in the morning, families heading beach-ward with their gear, the occasional ice cream van doing its rounds. The bed was actually good quality, not just hotel-acceptable, and the bathroom was modern enough without feeling sterile. You know what impressed me most though? The little details that show someone’s paying attention – proper blackout curtains for those bright summer mornings, decent water pressure in the shower, and windows that open wide enough to get that proper sea breeze flowing through. The whole place feels like it’s run by people who understand what travelers actually want, not what some corporate manual says they should want. Sure, it’s not going to wow you with fancy spa facilities or a Michelin-starred restaurant, but honestly, with Pentewan’s beach right there and some genuinely good pubs within easy walking distance, why would you want to stay locked up inside anyway?

The accommodation was comfortable and had everything you need. Many walks to do and loved that it was a very short walk to the beach.

The cottage was very cosy and close to everything we needed. Having a little coffee shop practically next door and the beach a few minutes away was really great. It was a very quiet, relaxing stay. We had a very lovely time, and we took our dog too. Great all around. We would definitely stay again. The hosts were friendly and very helpful.

What could be improved: Nothing loved it!David from United Kingdom – 1 April 2025 (8/10)
What could be improved: Couldn’t see the TV without moving it slightly as a large table and chairs was in front of it.

The cottage was clean and cosy with a comfortable bed and sofa! It was near the beach, pub and cafe. It had everything we needed. Glad it had a wood burner!
What could be improved: It was a little musty but it was February and very cold. To be expected in an old property I guess.Teresa from United Kingdom – 18 February 2025 (9/10)
The property was cosy and well equipped. It was clean and very comfortable. We stayed with our 15 year old daughter and our small dog. A 3 night stay was perfect and the fact we went in February when we were able to take the dog on the beach was ideal.
Loved The Ship Inn; a really welcoming pub with great selection of drinks and delicious food.
We also went to the Hubbox which was amazing; probably the best burgers we’ve ever tasted 👌
We went for a lovely coastal walk to Mevagissey which was fab! Not too far and quaint little fishing village with some lovely shops, cafes and bars.
We had amazing communication from the host both prior to our trip to reassure us and whilst we were at the property when we experienced a problem. We felt they went above and beyond so that was very much appreciated.
What could be improved: It would have been nice to have a little instruction manual to work things like heating as it took us a while to work it out.
Also the tele kept glitching unless you watched on iPlayer and the tv in the main bedroom didn’t work for us at all.
These negatives did not impact our stay and shouldn’t put people off staying in this really lovely cosy cottage.Paul from United Kingdom – 15 December 2024 (9/10)
very clean and comfortable

Lovely little cottage, great location, the local pub is literally 2 minutes walk and does great food. We had an awesome Sunday roast there. The only criticism I would have is it's advertised as dog friendly but no dogs allowed on Pentewan beach until 1st November and also the closest piece of grass between the pub and the cottage dogs aren't allowed on either! Quite annoying when you have a 4 month old puppy that needs to go out for wees late at night and very early morning. There's only a small court yard to the front of the cottage and the puppy could jump the wall. Otherwise, lovely stay, very cozy but does smell a bit damp. There is an awesome little public footpath loop past the B&B across the square and back round but we only discovered this on out penultimate night! I absolutely loved the bathroom and the fire!
What could be improved: As mentioned didn't like the lack of facilities for the dog.Claire from United Kingdom – 11 September 2024 (9/10)
The Little Lighthouse was so cosy, comfortable and clean. Right across the road from our favourite cafe. Beautiful walks near by. Brilliant communication from Rianna. Being able to bring our little cat with us was the icing on the cake! Thank you for a lovely stay.
What could be improved: There was nothing I disliked
