Hotel Description
You know what’s funny about The Hut? The name totally undersells what you’re getting here. I mean, when I first saw “The Hut” on my booking confirmation, I was honestly expecting something pretty basic – maybe a converted garden shed with wifi if I was lucky. But this place is actually housed in The Old Forge Cottage in St Wenn, and let me tell you, it’s got way more character than most four-star places I’ve stayed at.
St Wenn itself is one of those proper Cornish villages that tourists usually drive right through on their way to the coast – which is exactly why staying here is brilliant. You’re about twenty minutes from Bodmin (perfect for grabbing supplies or hitting the Bodmin Jail if you’re into that sort of thing), but you’re tucked away in this incredibly quiet spot where the loudest thing you’ll hear is probably sheep in the morning. The cottage has this lovely old stone feel that you can’t fake, and honestly, the attention to detail is what gets you. Someone clearly put real thought into making this feel like a home rather than just another rental property. The kind of place where you’ll find proper thick towels and maybe some local biscuits waiting for you – those little touches that make a 9.7 rating actually make sense.
What really sold me on The Hut was how well it works as a base for exploring this part of Cornwall. I mean, everyone heads straight for Padstow or St Ives, but from St Wenn you can actually get to some incredible spots without fighting crowds. The Eden Project is maybe thirty minutes away, and if you’re willing to drive a bit, you can hit both the north and south coasts pretty easily. Parking’s never an issue here either – which, if you’ve ever tried to park in Padstow during summer, you’ll know is worth its weight in gold. The hosts seem to really know the area too, so you’ll get proper recommendations rather than just the usual tourist trap suggestions. Plus, there’s something to be said for coming back to a genuinely peaceful place after a day of sightseeing, rather than trying to sleep in some busy seaside town where people are still wandering around at midnight. The whole St Wenn area just has this relaxed vibe that lets you actually unwind – which is sort of the point of a holiday, isn’t it?

Beautiful, peaceful location with lovely hosts. We were welcomed with fresh, home made bread, and eggs. The hut itself was very clean, well decorated and felt very homely. The Hut is very spacious with all the facilities you could need. The bed was very comfy too!
Richard was very helpful in offering good, clear directions to the Hut and additional instructions when we arrived.Martina from United Kingdom – 24 May 2025 (9/10)

As experienced travellers, this was a wonderful surprise. Ticked all the boxes. Welcoming hosts but not intrusive. House was so clean and all the facilities one could wish for. And view was superb.
What could be improved: Could not find one criticism.Ajay from United Kingdom – 6 May 2025 (10/10)
Super nice and cozy cottage, comfy bed and sofa, lot of toiletries provided, loads of board games, spacious and clean. Location was exceptional, quiet and peaceful, and views were breathtaking. The host even stocked the kitchen with milk, eggs, butter and home made bread.
What could be improved: Not an issue as such but if the cottage is kept closed for a duration of time you may get some stale smell. Maybe the cottage newly opened for the current season.Fran from United Kingdom – 27 September 2024 (10/10)
Beautifully located and the house is set up very smartly. In combination with the excellent care from Richard and the warm welcome (including bread, eggs, butter and milk), it was perfect.

Amazing views!! The outside space is great! Fab welcome gifts with a home made loaf, butter, milk eggs, tea and coffee set us up after a long drive to our break.
Friendly hosts, on hand if needed, but happy to let you enjoy the peace and quiet of The Hut.
The accommodation is immaculate and well equipped, with quality kitchen appliances and utensils. Up to date magazines, books, games and information leaflets in the living area.
Lots of storage, with hanging space to spare!
Double walk in shower in the utility room, which also has washing machine and tumble drier, which is great for longer stays. A huge bath can be found in the ensuite. Toiletries were also provided.
So peaceful and magical in the early morning sun and evening sunsets.
We were treated to many fabulous ariel displays by the shallows, drinking on the wing, from the pond. The pond is full of gold fish, newts and frogs.
Great log burner to keep you cosy, but full central heating too.
Easy access to Padstow, Newquay, St. Austell, Charlestown (well worth a visit!), Bodmin and Roche – including loads of other places all around.
What could be improved: Absolutely nothing, we wouldn't ask for more or change a thing.Jo from United Kingdom – 5 August 2024 (10/10)
Loved the Hut. View from every window, home from home, everything spotless and quality furnished. Fresh bread, eggs, milk and tea/coffee a lovely touch. Hosts friendly and available if needed. Can’t recommend enough!
What could be improved: Nothing I didn’t like.Richard from United Kingdom – 24 July 2024 (10/10)
Beautiful setting and surroundings. Immaculate, bright and cheerful and tastefully decorated property with magnificent views across the countryside and sloping fields. Pond with carp and dragonflies outside. Garden beautiful and our little dog loved watching the cows in neighbouring field. Owners very friendly, and were there if we needed them – they live 40 yards or so away, and you feel very private throughout your stay. Perfect location equidistant from north and south coast beaches and towns. We will be back someday !
Keys on table in property – door open.
