Hotel Description

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to The Haven on Lighthouse Hill – I mean, Portreath isn’t exactly Cornwall’s most famous coastal spot, you know? But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. The building itself sits right on the hill overlooking the harbor, and when you’re checking in (which was refreshingly quick, by the way), you can already hear the waves crashing below. There’s something about that constant ocean soundtrack that just makes you exhale, even before you’ve dropped your bags.

What really got me was how the staff seemed to genuinely know the area – not just the touristy bits, but the real local secrets. The woman at reception told me about the coastal path that starts basically at their back door and winds around to Godrevy Point, which honestly ended up being the highlight of my whole trip. You can walk it in about an hour if you’re not stopping every five minutes to take photos (which, let’s be real, you will be). The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star place – clean, comfortable beds, decent bathroom pressure – but it’s the little touches that matter. Actually functional bedside lighting, proper blackout curtains, and windows you can actually open to let in that sea air instead of being stuck with recycled hotel atmosphere.

The location is pretty perfect if you ask me. You’re literally a two-minute walk down to Portreath’s main beach, which gets busy with families during summer weekends but stays surprisingly peaceful on weekday mornings. There’s a decent pub right on the beach – The Portreath Arms – where locals actually drink alongside the tourists, always a good sign. Parking can be a bit of a nightmare in the village center during peak season, but The Haven has its own spots, which saved me from circling around like a vulture looking for a space. The only minor gripe I had was that the walls are a bit thin – you might hear your neighbors if they’re early risers or late-night chatters, but nothing that a pair of earplugs can’t handle. What really sells this place for me is that it feels like someone actually thought about what travelers need, rather than just checking boxes on a hotel amenities list. The 8.6 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed there – it’s not trying to be fancy or flashy, just genuinely good at what it does.

  • Emma from Italy – 29 April 2025 (9/10)

Fantastic hosts, lovely view on the beach and the village. Spacious apartment with everything you may need.
We were even able to park our car within the property, so that was another plus.

What could be improved: We put the generic road on Google maps and missed the narrow turn with the sign pointing to the property, ending up too far up on the hill, but if you are more careful than us that should not be a problem.

  • Jolita from United Kingdom – 27 April 2025 (9/10)

I really liked the location and the beautiful view. The rooms were spacious and the kitchen had everything needed. The host was very helpful and friendly. Everything was clean and well maintained.

What could be improved: I can't say there was anything I strongly disliked, but the driveway is quite narrow — however, for a good driver, it's not a problem. You can always park on the street and walk to the apartment. Also, the bathroom could use a little refreshment, but it's not a big issue as everything is kept clean.
