Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about The Fieldings? It’s tucked away on Treyew Road in this quiet residential pocket of Truro that most tourists never see – honestly, I walked past it twice before spotting the discreet signage. But that’s actually part of its charm. You’re literally a five-minute stroll from the cathedral and all the main shopping bits, yet when you’re sitting in their little garden area with a coffee, you’d never guess you’re in the heart of Cornwall’s unofficial capital.
The building itself has this lovely Georgian thing going on – proper Cornish stone, sash windows, the works – but inside they’ve done something really clever. It’s boutique-y without being precious about it, if that makes sense. My room (I think it was on the second floor) had these gorgeous high ceilings and original features, but the bathroom was completely modern with one of those rainfall showers that actually works properly. The bed was ridiculously comfortable too – I mean, I’m usually awake at 6am no matter what, but I slept like the dead here. The only slight downside is that some of the rooms face the road, and while Treyew isn’t exactly the A30, you do get a bit of morning traffic noise if you’re a light sleeper.
What really sets this place apart though is how the staff actually seem to know Truro inside out. The woman at reception (Sarah, I think?) gave me these brilliant walking route suggestions that took me through parts of the city I’d never have found otherwise – including this amazing shortcut down to the river through some old Victorian terraces. And honestly, for a 4-star place, the rates are pretty reasonable, especially considering you’re getting proper character rather than some soulless chain hotel experience. The breakfast is solid too – proper Cornish bacon and black pudding, none of that continental nonsense. I’d definitely stay again, particularly if I was doing one of those longer Cornwall trips where you want a comfortable base that’s actually connected to real transport links (the train station’s about ten minutes on foot) rather than being stuck out in some picture-postcard village where you need a car for everything.

A charming B&B with large and comfortable rooms, one of which has a terrific view of Truro Cathedral. Breakfast is served in a lovely dining room with an old-world feel.
What could be improved: The location on the A390 is very good for those who are driving, and is close to nearby supermarkets, but is quite a distance from the city centre for those on foot.Sam from United Kingdom – 7 March 2025 (8/10)
As I had to leave early every morning the hosts kindly provided me with a substantial breakfast box. The bed was comfortable and the room large. Location was very convenient for what I needed.

Stagg furniture and the couple that run the house are lovely and onsite most of the time to help
What could be improved: Creepy stairs when we returned late after work approx 12-1amWieslaw from United Kingdom – 21 August 2024 (9/10)
The breakfast was very good, the coffee and hot chocolate as well. The location was also adequate, quite close to the City center.

Breakfast was good, coffee was wonderful. Authentic mansion was transformed into guest house. It was very interesting to be in natural British surroundings. Note: The photo is not dealing with the place. It is my salute to Mike from Bath.😀
What could be improved: For me it was ok but guests to be ready for plus/minus 20 walk to the city centre.James from United Kingdom – 16 June 2024 (9/10)
The owner was a very friendly person.
The property was very traditional and had a very nice charm to it.
Some people complained about the breakfast but there were a choice of 5 cereals. Prunes or grapefruit. Fruit bowl. Yoghurt. Cheese and meat for the toast. And croissants and pain au chocolate.
Coffee served in a caffiere which had great flavour.
What could be improved: Slightly temperamental flush on the toilet. But that got sorted.Anna from United Kingdom – 31 May 2024 (8/10)
Exceptional breakfast offer. A wide range of food selection. Excellent and very friendly service. It was always very warm and cosy when we came in in the evening. Facilities to make tea and coffee in our room was fantastic and very practical.
What could be improved: The overthrow on the bedding could have been newer and cleaner. One of the mattrasses was a bit too hard. The toilet was a bit difficult to flush.
