Hotel Description

You know what? I’ve stayed at plenty of countryside hotels that promise peace and quiet, but The Den at Langdon Farm actually delivers on it. Tucked away in Boyton – and I mean properly tucked away, you’ll definitely need your GPS working for the final stretch – this place feels like stumbling onto someone’s well-kept secret. The farm setting isn’t just for show either; you’ll wake up to actual farm sounds (which, honestly, is way more charming than you’d expect) and the kind of silence at night that city folks like me forget exists.

What really gets me about this place is how they’ve managed to feel both polished and genuinely rustic. The rooms have that farmhouse character without the creaky floors and dodgy heating you sometimes get with “authentic” countryside stays. I mean, there’s proper underfloor heating – not something you always find in converted farm buildings around Cornwall. The staff actually know the area too, not just the tourist highlights. They pointed me toward a brilliant walk that starts basically from their doorstep and loops around to Egloskerry, takes about two hours if you don’t get distracted by the views (which you will). Parking’s sorted – there’s plenty of space, no stress about squeezing into tight spots or feeding meters.

The thing is, Boyton’s not exactly a destination you’d stumble across by accident. It’s proper countryside, about twenty minutes from Launceston if you need actual shops or restaurants, but that’s sort of the point. The Den works because it gives you a reason to be out here in the first place. Breakfast is genuinely good – none of that sad buffet situation – and they source locally, which you can actually taste. The 9.1 rating makes sense when you experience it; it’s one of those places where small details add up. Hot towels, decent coffee, staff who remember your name after one conversation. I stayed during a particularly wet February (because Cornwall in February, right?) and even then, watching the rain from their lounge with a proper cup of tea felt like exactly where I wanted to be. If you’re looking for spa treatments and room service, this isn’t your spot. But if you want to properly disconnect somewhere that feels real rather than manufactured, The Den gets it right.

The hosts were friendly, the property was spotless throughout, the bed was extremely comfortable.

What could be improved: Only let down was the slanted ceiling in the bathroom and bedroom. But being 6ft 3in I did manage to get in the bath for a shower.

  • Ilona from Germany – 22 April 2025 (10/10)

A very pretty little holiday apartment on a lovely farm. Very lovingly and perfectly equipped; nothing was missing. The outdoor seating area was covered and equipped with a heat lamp, so you could sit outside even in bad weather. The bed was very comfortable. The owners were very accommodating, helpful, and friendly. The two dogs were very sweet. The nearest town, Launceston, is a 10-minute drive away. The location is perfect for exploring Cornwall, Dartmoor, and Exmoor. A wonderful stay that I thoroughly enjoyed; I will definitely be back.
