Hotel Description

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to The Brewhouse on Valency Row – I mean, Boscastle gets packed with tourists, especially in summer, and you know how some places just phone it in because they know people will come anyway. But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible.

The building itself has this proper Cornish character without feeling like a theme park version of itself, if you know what I mean. It’s right there overlooking the harbour, and I’m talking about the kind of views where you’ll find yourself just standing at the window with your morning coffee, watching the fishing boats come and go. The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully done – not trying too hard to be boutique-y, but clearly someone cared about the details. The beds are actually comfortable (you’d be amazed how many coastal hotels seem to think the view makes up for terrible mattresses), and the bathrooms have that perfect water pressure that makes you want to stay in the shower forever after a day of coastal walking.

What really sold me on this place though is how well they understand their location. The staff – and I’m pretty sure most of them are local – know exactly which footpath to take if you want to avoid the crowds heading down to the harbour, or where to park if you’re planning to walk the coast path to Tintagel. They’ll tell you honestly that yes, it gets mental busy during school holidays, but if you head out early morning or late afternoon, you’ll have those dramatic clifftop views pretty much to yourself. The restaurant downstairs does proper food too, not just the usual pub grub you might expect – though their fish and chips are honestly some of the best I’ve had in Cornwall, and I’ve tried a few. There’s something about eating fresh crab while looking out over the very harbour where it was probably caught that morning that just feels right, you know?

Parking can be a bit of a dance during peak season (welcome to Cornwall), but they’ve got it sorted for guests, which takes one major stress off your shoulders. The whole check-in process was refreshingly straightforward too – no pretentious nonsense, just friendly people who seem genuinely pleased you’ve chosen to stay. I’d definitely come back, probably in shoulder season when you can actually appreciate Boscastle’s dramatic coastline without fighting through crowds. For a 4-star place, it punches well above its weight, and that 9.1 rating? Yeah, I can see why people keep coming back.

Fab location in centre with easy access to coastal path. Well equipped and comfortable. Two of the beds are children sized, so a bit short, but not a problem. We put a ford focus in the garage so smaller cars are fine, but whole week parking locally is not expensive for larger cars, and there is a space also in front of the garage. We had a very happy family break for 6 adults and loved it! Also has a lovely garden ideal for sundowners and relaxing with a view of the passing world.

It was a brilliant location and we loved Boscastle. The cottage was excellent as perfect for a group of 5. Access was good and brilliant walking to local restaurants. Can't wait to go back 🙂

This is a lovely property right near the harbour in Boscastle. It is tucked away, but once you find it, it is delightful.
The Brewhouse suited our party perfectly – a walking holiday along the Coastal Path.

What could be improved: The one thing that was not as good as we would have liked, was the comfort of the beds. This could be sorted easily, possibly some new mattresses?

  • Deirdre from United Kingdom – 15 March 2025 (8/10)

    The location was superb

What could be improved: Dishwasher would have been super as there were six people.
Garage too small for either of our cars so one had to park in the car park. It could be mentioned in the details. We
