You know what struck me first about The Beach House & Porth Sands Apartments? It’s actually right there – like, properly right there on Porth Beach. I mean, I’ve stayed at plenty of places that claim to be “beachfront,” but this one’s literally a two-minute stumble from your room to the sand. The whole setup sits on this gorgeous stretch between Newquay’s main buzz and the quieter Porth area, which honestly gives you the best of both worlds. You can walk into town when you want the nightlife and surf shops, but retreat back to something that feels more like a proper Cornish coastal escape.
The apartments themselves are surprisingly spacious – I stayed in one of the larger ones and actually had room to spread out, which is rare for UK seaside accommodation. What I really appreciated was how they’ve managed to keep that beachy, relaxed vibe without going overboard on the nautical theme (no giant anchors or rope everywhere, thank god). The kitchens are properly equipped too, which matters when you’re picking up fresh crab from the harbor or grabbing supplies from the Tesco just up the road. Speaking of practical stuff – parking’s included, which is honestly a godsend in this area where you’d otherwise be circling around looking for a spot or paying through the nose for it.
The location really is the star here though. Porth Beach is one of those spots that locals actually use, not just tourists, so you get a much more authentic feel. It’s perfect for families because the beach is more sheltered than some of Newquay’s wilder surf spots, but still gets decent waves if you’re into that. I loved being able to hear the waves from my room at night – it’s that perfect distance where you get the sound without the sand blowing everywhere. The coastal path runs right behind the property too, so you can easily walk to Watergate Bay (about 20 minutes) or head the other way toward Newquay proper. There’s this little beach café practically next door that does brilliant coffee and proper Cornish pasties – the kind where the pastry actually holds together and doesn’t fall apart in your hands. The whole area gets busy in peak summer, obviously, but even then it never felt overwhelming like some of the more touristy spots can. I’d definitely come back, especially in shoulder season when you can still get decent weather but the crowds thin out a bit.

What could be improved: Noisy road noise from the rear bedrooms. Couldn’t safely open a window tinker in fresh air due to security. Would be hot in summer!
