Hotel Description
You know what? I’ve driven past The Applehay probably a dozen times heading down to the Helford River, and I always wondered about that lovely stone building tucked away in Heathorne. Well, I finally stayed there last month, and honestly – I’m kicking myself for waiting so long. This place is one of those gems that locals probably want to keep secret, sitting quietly in Constantine (which, if you don’t know the area, is this perfect little village between Falmouth and the Lizard Peninsula).
The moment you pull up, you get it. It’s not trying to be some flashy resort – it’s just genuinely beautiful in that understated Cornish way. The building has this wonderful weathered stone that looks like it’s been part of the landscape forever, and the gardens… well, they’re the kind where you actually want to sit with your morning coffee instead of just walking through for photos. What really struck me was how quiet it is – you’re only about ten minutes from Falmouth’s buzz, but you’d never know it. The staff seemed to actually live in the area (refreshing, honestly) and kept giving me these insider tips about walking the coastal path toward Durgan, which turned out to be absolutely spectacular.
Here’s the thing that really sets The Applehay apart – it feels like staying at the home of a very stylish friend who happens to live in one of Cornwall’s most beautiful spots. The rooms have this perfect balance of comfort and character, with those thick stone walls that keep everything blissfully cool even on warm summer days. Parking is straightforward (always a worry in Cornwall), and they’ve managed to maintain that historic charm without making you feel like you’re roughing it. I mean, that 9.6 rating isn’t just for show – everything from check-in to the breakfast recommendations was spot-on. If you’re planning to explore the Helford area or use it as a base for the coastal walks, you really can’t do better. Just don’t tell everyone about it, yeah?

I honestly could not find anything bad to say about this little place. It's absolutely beautiful. We were lucky with the weather. Woke each morning to the sound of the cuckoo and once an owl. The hut was very clean and well organised. It has everything u need for your stay and if something is missing you can message Oliver. My partner enjoyed lighting the log burner evening and early mornings. We loved the location and spent days exploring Falmouth, Kynance cove, St Ives Penzance and Lands End.
In fact we enjoyed our stay so much we stayed a further night. Would highly recommend.Rose from United Kingdom – 9 February 2025 (10/10)

The most gorgeous little shepherds hut. So comfortable and they had thought of everything. The bath outside was absolutely gorgeous and to be able to star gaze from it was magical. I loved the place so much that one day I decided to just have a cosy morning instead of going out, having tea in bed and watching the rain.
