Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Tehidy Holiday Park near Harris Mill, I wasn’t expecting much. Holiday parks can be hit or miss, you know? But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. It’s tucked away in Illogan, which if you’re not familiar with Cornwall, sits right between Redruth and the coast – close enough to pop down to the beaches but far enough inland that you’re not dealing with the summer crowds every single day.

What really got me was how they’ve managed to keep that proper Cornish countryside feel while still giving you everything you’d want from a decent break. The pitches are well-spaced (thank god, because nobody wants to hear their neighbor’s entire holiday playlist), and honestly, the facilities are way better than I expected from a 4-star setup. The shower blocks are actually clean – I mean properly clean, not just “holiday park clean” – and there’s proper hot water pressure, which… well, if you’ve stayed at enough of these places, you’ll know that’s not always a given. The kids’ play areas are solid too, though they do get pretty lively around teatime when everyone’s back from day trips.

Here’s the thing that really makes this place work – it’s the location. You’re basically on the doorstep of some of the best bits of Cornwall without the mental summer traffic you get closer to the coast. Tehidy Country Park is literally next door (hence the name, I suppose), and those woodland walks are genuinely lovely – proper old mining country with these brilliant coastal paths that eventually lead you down to Portreath if you fancy the trek. The beaches at Godrevy and Gwithian are maybe fifteen minutes in the car, and you can actually find parking there if you time it right, unlike some of the more famous spots further west. Plus, being near Redruth means you can grab proper supplies without driving miles – there’s a decent Tesco and everything you’d need for self-catering.

The staff seem to actually care about the place, which makes a difference. Check-in was straightforward, no queuing about for ages, and when we had a minor issue with our pitch’s electric hookup, someone sorted it within the hour. The on-site shop stocks the basics without absolutely fleecing you (though obviously you’ll still pay holiday prices), and there’s a reasonable little café that does proper Cornish pasties – not amazing, but definitely edible and convenient when you can’t be bothered to cook.

I mean, it’s not perfect – the WiFi can be a bit patchy depending on where you’re pitched, and if you’re here during school holidays, it does get properly busy with families. But that 9.1 rating makes sense when you actually stay here. It’s one of those places that just works – clean, well-run, great location for exploring Cornwall, and you genuinely feel like you’re getting decent value for money. If you’re thinking about a Cornwall holiday but don’t want to deal with the chaos of the more touristy spots, this is actually a really smart base.

  The property was fantastic! It was absolutely spotless, the facilities were great and the location was really peaceful and perfect for visiting many Cornish landmarks. Richard and Julia, our hosts, were very friendly and welcoming, which added much to the overall experience. Many thanks!

  We were 3 hours late (check in is until 8pm but there were road closures on our way to the site so we arrived 11pm) and the hosts waited patiently for us and even helped us find alternative routes ❤️

  We liked our caravan. It was just right for the amount of time we spent in it, and it was a great base to explore Cornwall from. The grounds were well maintained, and pleasingly quiet and serene. I would very much consider staying here again on another visit to Cornwall.
  
  What could be improved: I don't think there is much we didn't like. The wifi is weak, but honestly, we were there to disconnect so there really isn't a need for anything more stable than what is provided for free.

  Property could fit a family of 4 kids in 3 bedrooms. Host replaced a bed in one of the room with a baby cot before we arrive which was a delicate attention and very convenient.
  We had a toilet pipe blockage and the host was really quick to react and fix the issue.
  
  What could be improved: The internet connexion and even the mobile phone network connection was very bad. Good if one wants to be completely disconnected. In our case, we wanted to connect with friends, family and even to one coaching session.
  Also, the timer on the heating was not properly adjusted and temperature was going too high in the middle of the night.
