Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of places along this stretch of Cornwall, and honestly? Sunset View gets it right in ways that the bigger hotels completely miss. First thing you notice pulling up to Greenbank is how quiet everything gets once you turn off the main road – it’s like the coastal chaos just melts away, even though you’re literally minutes from some of the best surf breaks in the southwest.

The location is actually genius when you think about it. You’re tucked away in Gwithian village (which most tourists drive straight through on their way to St. Ives), but you can walk to Gwithian Beach in about ten minutes, maybe fifteen if you stop to chat with the locals walking their dogs. And here’s what I love – you get those incredible sunset views over St. Ives Bay without dealing with the summer crowds that absolutely swamp the town center. The owners clearly know this area well because they’ve positioned everything to catch those evening colors bouncing off the water. I mean, the name isn’t just marketing fluff – you’ll actually want to plan your dinner around sunset time.

What really sets this place apart though is the attention to details that matter when you’re staying somewhere for more than just crashing after a day out. The rooms feel like someone actually lives there, you know? Proper thick curtains for those ridiculously early summer sunrises, decent water pressure (which is honestly hit or miss in older Cornish properties), and they’ve got the heating sorted – crucial if you’re visiting outside peak season when those coastal winds can be brutal. The staff seem to genuinely know the area too, not just the obvious tourist spots. They pointed me toward this little coastal path that connects to the South West Coast Path but skips the busy sections near Hayle. Parking’s straightforward, which is a blessing because trying to navigate Cornish village streets with a full-size car can be… well, let’s just say it builds character.

The whole vibe here is sort of perfectly balanced – comfortable enough that you feel properly looked after, but not so polished that you feel like you’re staying in some corporate chain. It’s got that relaxed Cornish hospitality thing down pat, where you can chat with other guests over breakfast without it feeling forced. And speaking of breakfast, they actually source locally, which sounds like marketing speak until you taste the difference. You’ll want to book directly if possible – the rates are usually better, and I get the sense they take better care of guests who come through them rather than the booking sites. Honestly, with a 9.5 rating, you’d expect it to be either overpriced or oversold, but it manages to live up to the hype without feeling precious about it. If you’re looking for a proper base to explore this part of Cornwall without the St. Ives premium prices and crowds, this is your spot.

  Location of the house was excellent, so close to the village of Gwithian, nearby beaches and St Ives.
  
  What could be improved: It would be extra special if we could use BBQ in the garden. Unfortunately, because of the artificial grass and wooden decking the use of it was forbidden.

  We loved our stay at this property and can’t recommend it enough. It’s a really bright and airy 3 bedroom house with fully fitted kitchen and everything you need for a comfortable stay for a family. We loved the double height living room with its big windows to take in the view. It was spotlessly clean and we even had some essentials (tea, coffee, milk, biscuits) supplied on our arrival. Location is excellent, there are supermarkets, restaurants and a beautiful beach where you can walk to see the seals a short drive away. 3 nights wasn’t enough!!

  Stayed here twice now once at new year and now in summer .
  We come to cornwall alot and now looking forward to moving here next month 😀
  Owner got property ready for us before check in time which was great and place was very clean .
  Property is big and we love the rooms.
  Plenty of space for everyone.
  
  What could be improved: I feel garden part needs fencing round front as my 2 year old could of run straight out the front .
