You know what struck me first about Sunset Bungalow? It’s tucked away in Mountjoy where you actually feel like you’ve escaped Newquay’s madness, but you’re still close enough to hear the distant crash of waves when the wind’s right. I mean, most places in this area either dump you right in the tourist chaos or strand you so far out you need a car for everything – this one gets the balance just right.

The whole setup feels more like staying at a well-traveled friend’s place than some corporate hotel chain. The rooms have that lived-in comfort where everything actually works (shocking, I know) and someone clearly thought about what you’d need after a long day exploring the coast. Honestly, the 4-star rating undersells it a bit – I’ve stayed at fancier places that felt way more sterile. Here, you’ll find proper thick towels, a shower with actual water pressure, and windows you can crack open for that Atlantic breeze without getting blasted by wind all night. The whole Mountjoy area stays pretty quiet after dark too, which is perfect if you’re done with Newquay’s late-night scene but still want easy access to Fistral Beach and the harbor area.

What really sold me though was how the staff actually knows the area beyond just pointing you toward the obvious tourist spots. They’ll tell you which days the Newquay farmers market is worth hitting (Thursdays, definitely), or suggest hitting Watergate Bay early morning before the surf schools take over. The walk into town takes maybe fifteen minutes if you know the footpath shortcuts – though honestly, you’ll want to drive if you’re planning a big night out because that hill back up to Mountjoy is no joke after a few pints. Parking’s straightforward too, none of that nightmare parallel parking you get closer to the town center. I stayed during peak summer and it was busy but never felt cramped or rushed. The 9.3 rating makes total sense when you add it all up – it’s not trying to be the flashiest place in Cornwall, but everything just works the way it should, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

  Sunset is more than we've imagined! It is lovely and cosy, very clean. The host is very welcoming, we felt very special. Perfect location as well! Plenty of activities around the location! We would recommend to all our friends, it is wonderful for families and not only! We will want to come back here, can not wait to book our next holiday!
