Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Strathallan Guest House? It’s actually tucked away on Monument Road in a way that feels properly residential – none of that touristy hustle you get closer to Helston’s center, but you’re literally a five-minute walk from everything that matters. I mean, you’ve got the main shopping area right there, and honestly, the walk into town is quite pleasant, especially in the morning when you’re not dodging crowds.
The place itself has this genuine B&B charm that’s getting harder to find these days. The owners clearly live and breathe hospitality – not in that over-the-top way that makes you uncomfortable, but more like staying with friends who actually know what they’re doing. The rooms have character without feeling fussy (you know how some guest houses try too hard with the floral everything?), and the beds are proper comfortable. I slept brilliantly, which doesn’t always happen when you’re somewhere new. What really impressed me was the attention to small things – decent shower pressure, enough plug sockets where you actually need them, and proper blackout curtains that work. Plus, parking’s sorted right there, which if you’ve ever tried finding a spot in Helston during summer, you’ll appreciate.
The breakfast situation is where they really shine, though. Fresh, local ingredients done well – none of that pre-packaged nonsense. The Cornish sausages are excellent, and they source their eggs locally too. You can tell they take pride in it without making a big song and dance about it. Location-wise, you’re perfectly positioned for exploring the Lizard Peninsula – Porthleven’s about ten minutes by car, and you can easily day-trip to places like Kynance Cove or Lizard Point without feeling like you’re spending half your holiday in traffic. Helston itself is worth exploring too, especially if you time it right for Flora Day (though book well ahead for that). The 9.3 rating honestly makes sense when you stay there – it’s one of those places that just gets the basics absolutely right while adding enough personal touches to make it memorable. Not flashy, not trying to be something it’s not, just genuinely good hospitality in a spot that works perfectly for exploring this part of Cornwall.

Had a great stay at Strathallan Guest House. Dave was extremely helpful and provided lots of information of where I could find places I was looking to explore. The Strathallan was exceptionally clean and tidy. Great breakfast – freshly cooked to your liking each day. The room was spacious and had everything that was needed for a relaxed stay. Great location for the solo traveller – with local bus services a short walk away. Thank you Dave!

Firstly apologies for the delayed response. The hosting and the breakfast was superb. – talk about spoilt for choice. We were even given breakfast butties when we were setting off before breakfast. The room was pretty and very comfortable and the shower was mega hot. The hotel was close to town with pubs and shops and restaurants to choose from. We would definately stay again.
