Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Stowaway St Merryn? The name actually makes perfect sense once you’re there – it really does feel like you’ve discovered this hidden gem tucked away on Pendarves Street. I mean, St Merryn isn’t exactly on every tourist’s radar (which is honestly part of its charm), but this little 4-star spot has figured out how to be properly comfortable without trying too hard.
The location is brilliant if you know what you’re after. You’re literally a few minutes’ walk from some of the best beaches on this stretch of Cornwall – Harlyn Bay and Constantine Bay are both close enough that you can actually hear the surf on windy nights. What I really appreciated was how quiet Pendarves Street is, especially compared to the madness you get in Padstow during summer. The owners seem to have thought about the little things that matter – there’s decent parking (not a given in Cornwall, trust me), and the check-in was refreshingly straightforward. No fuss, just genuine local knowledge about where to grab the best pasties or which beaches work best when the wind’s up.
The rooms themselves feel like someone’s put real thought into what travelers actually need. I’m talking proper blackout curtains for those bright summer mornings, genuinely comfortable beds, and – this might sound small but it’s huge – really good water pressure in the showers. The decor walks that fine line between coastal charm and modern comfort without going overboard on the nautical theme (you know the type – everything shaped like anchors). What really won me over was the attention to local character. You can tell they’ve sourced things locally where it makes sense, and the breakfast included some properly good Cornish ingredients. The 8.1 rating feels about right – it’s not trying to be a luxury resort, but it delivers exactly what it promises and then some. If you’re planning to explore this part of North Cornwall and want somewhere that feels like a proper base rather than just a place to crash, Stowaway gets it right. Just book early in summer – word’s getting out about places like this, and St Merryn’s still small enough that the good spots fill up fast.

Really clean, smelled lovely! Great little garden and patio area. Location was perfect for exploring.
What could be improved: I just wish there was a shower rather than a bath. But that said, the bath filled really quickly so it wasn't as much of an issue as I'd expected.Jovelyn from United Kingdom – 8 June 2024 (9/10)
Lovely place to stay for a holiday. We will definitely come back again.

What could be improved: Needed side lights please.Laura from United Kingdom – 13 July 2023 (7/10)
Great location, comfy beds and living room and good supply of kitchen stuff. Local bakery is amazing. Nice little welcome pack of milk, biscuits, tea and coffee.
What could be improved: The bath is small and there is no shower, there was an attachment but it doesn't seem to fit on the taps. Also, it wasn't obvious that we needed to bring toilet roll and we arrived at 11pm, all needing the loo and the shop was shut, this is a basic which I feel should be included. Rooms a little small also. Facilities are very basic, no iron, no freezer.James from United Kingdom – 10 April 2023 (9/10)
comfortable, light and airy, perfect for 4 and dog friendly.
What could be improved: Bath a little small, but it ok.Lee from United Kingdom – 22 August 2022 (8/10)
The location was ideal for quick travel to local beaches. The accommodation was clean, lots of extra kitchen utensils provided so it was like being at home. There was also free wifi which was an added bonus. It was also a nice touch for tea/coffee and biscuits to be provided.
What could be improved: The only criticisms would be the lack of a shower and the comfort of the double bed. The mattresses on the bunk beds was far superior to the mattress on the double bed which felt uncomfortable due to the springs.Christine from United Kingdom – 22 June 2025 (7/10)
Large living area good garden
What could be improved: Broken shower worked but not fixed to wall.A few ants in property.Tina from United Kingdom – 30 October 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: Bathroom needs updating.Maxine from United Kingdom – 28 August 2024 (8/10)
Very clean, well equipped with everything we needed in the kitchen. Parking space.
What could be improved: No shower, only handheld shower head.
Garden needed some TLC. A lovely outside space that could be made more welcoming.
Mattress on double bed very hard, found it uncomfortable.
