You know what struck me first about Stones Throw Lodge? The name actually makes sense – you really could skip a stone from here to Rick Stein’s famous restaurant empire down in Padstow proper. I mean, you’re tucked into the holiday village on St Petroc’s, which honestly feels like you get the best of both worlds without the summer madness that overtakes the harbor area.

The whole place has this understated confidence that I really appreciated. It’s not trying to be some flashy boutique hotel, but everything just… works. The rooms feel properly thought out – like someone actually stayed in them before deciding where to put the coffee station (thank god it’s not crammed into the bathroom like so many places). I loved that you can hear the gulls in the morning but not the car park shuffle that happens closer to the main drag. The staff genuinely seem to know the area too, which sounds obvious but you’d be surprised how rare that is. When I asked about the coastal path timing to Stepper Point, the woman at reception gave me this whole spiel about tide times and where to grab the best pasty for the walk – turned out she was spot on.

What really won me over though was how they’ve managed to feel local without being touristy, if that makes sense. The building itself sits nicely among the holiday village without sticking out like a sore thumb, and you’re close enough to walk into Padstow center (maybe ten minutes at a leisurely pace) but far enough that you’re not dealing with the day-tripper crowds stumbling past your window at all hours. The parking situation is actually sorted – which anyone who’s tried to navigate Padstow in August will tell you is worth its weight in gold. I stayed during the busy season and never had that panicked feeling about where to leave the car. Honestly, the 9.6 rating doesn’t surprise me at all. It’s one of those places that gets the fundamentals right first, then adds the nice touches. The kind of spot where you end up extending your stay because you realize you’re actually relaxing for once, rather than just ticking boxes on a Cornwall itinerary.

  Such a wonderful week at Stones Throw. Immaculate accommodation – peaceful location and superb weather! Excellent location for a family – recommend Polzeath, Porthcothan and Mawgan Porth beaches. Boat trip to Rock from Padstow also worth doing. Would definitely recommend a stay here and would return!

  Excellent location, so close to Padstow and the 7 bays. Beautiful cabin and extremely well kept location. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Had a fabulous time. Would highly recommend this place.

  The booking itself was seemless start to finish, our host Helen was super friendly with our questions pre visit and even checked in on us during our stay. The lodge is beautiful, it is on the most amazing and well kept site. The facilities on the site are fabulous and location for Padstow and surrounding area is perfect. The Lodge was super clean, had the best personal touches which went down a treat after a long journey. It was the perfect home from home and we can't wait to book our next visit.

  It was in a nice location, on a well maintained site, very close to Padstow. Good size property, very well equipped & some lovely homely touches.
