St Moritz Hotel and Cowshed Spa Overview

You know what struck me first about the St Moritz? It’s not actually in St Moritz – it’s tucked away in Trebetherick, which honestly is way better because you get all the luxury without the Alpine price tags or crowds. The moment you pull up (and yes, parking is actually decent here), you realize this place gets the whole North Cornwall vibe perfectly. It sits just back from Daymer Bay, close enough that you can hear the waves on quiet nights but far enough that you’re not dealing with the chaos of Polzeath’s main beach scene.

The Cowshed Spa bit isn’t just marketing fluff either – they’ve genuinely created something special here. I mean, after spending days getting pummeled by Atlantic winds while walking the coast path, sinking into one of their treatment rooms feels like pure salvation. The spa products smell incredible (sort of lemony and eucalyptus-y), and the therapists actually know what they’re doing with those post-surf shoulders. What I really appreciated was how they’ve designed the whole spa area to feel connected to the landscape outside – lots of natural light and these gorgeous stone features that remind you you’re in Cornwall, not some generic hotel chain.

The rooms themselves hit that sweet spot between polished and comfortable. Nothing too precious or sterile, which is smart given that most guests are here to actually explore the area, not hide indoors. The 8.7 rating makes sense when you experience things like their turndown service (they leave local chocolates, not generic mints) and the way staff genuinely know the area – like, they’ll tell you the exact tide times for Rock or suggest which footpath to take to avoid the worst mud after rain. The restaurant leans heavily into local sourcing, and you can taste the difference. Their crab comes from boats you can literally see from the terrace, and they do this incredible thing with Cornish lamb that had me questioning my usual fish-and-chips beach routine. Breakfast runs until a civilized 10:30, which anyone who’s spent a late night in Padstow will appreciate. Location-wise, you’re perfectly positioned for day trips – Rick Stein’s empire in Padstow is maybe fifteen minutes by car, the Camel Trail starts nearby if you’re into cycling, and you can walk to some seriously stunning coastal spots without fighting for parking. The only minor gripe? Wi-Fi can be patchy in some rooms, but honestly, that might be a blessing when you’re supposed to be on holiday anyway.

Staff extremely helpful, always had a smile.

The food and facilities were amazing

  • Simon from United Kingdom – 23 May 2025 (9/10)

We booked a cozy room and it was extremely well appointed, everything brand new and a perfectly good sized room. The staff were all super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was copious and really good quality with plenty of choice.

What could be improved: The only thing which was a little disappointing was the restaurant location – such a pity that it is tucked away behind the main building which has glorious views over the sea.

  • Douggy0503 from Australia – 20 May 2025 (9/10)

Everything was great. The food here is particularly good.

  • Cynthia from United Kingdom – 12 May 2025 (9/10)

Selection at breakfast excellent. could have had a better selection of veg choices for the younger members of my party at dinner.

What could be improved: Nothing in particular

  • Wayne from United Kingdom – 8 May 2025 (9/10)

    Breakfast great, facilities excellent.

  • Helen from United Kingdom – 2 May 2025 (9/10)

Room was lovely we had a balcony suite. The space on room & on balcony was great and view was lovely. Staff were fantastic, helpful & polite. Breakfast was tasty too.

What could be improved: Maybe nicer furniture outside would be nice, looked a bit tired.
I'm not sure the 'cosy rooms' are worth the money charged (we had one for the kids) they are small & so I'd say if i was staying again i'd not get anything less that the suite but it's a splurge and a treat as is expensive. Also outdoor pool wasn't open which was a shame as boiling that weekend but was out of season so can understand why.

Breakfast was amazing & all staff super friendly & welcoming.
Best yet was the free shuttle bus to and from hotel to Polzeath beach.
Will definitely use hotel in future 👌

    What could be improved: Nothing.

  • James from United Kingdom – 18 April 2025 (9/10)

The bed was so comfy and the breakfast was delicious

What could be improved: Potentially the price of the stay, and the pool was a bit cold and we couldn’t work the TV
