You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Sleepers Barn – I mean, it’s tucked away in the Cornish countryside near Saint Teath, which honestly isn’t exactly a household name. But that’s actually part of what makes this place so brilliant. The converted barn sits on Trewethen Farmhouse property, and when you first see it, there’s this moment where you think “oh, this is properly rural” in the best possible way.

The thing about staying here is that you’re genuinely in working farmland – not some sanitized version of countryside living that hotels sometimes try to pull off. You’ll hear actual farm sounds in the morning (which I found charming, though light sleepers might want to pack earplugs), and the air has that clean, slightly earthy smell that reminds you you’re miles from any city. The conversion work is really well done though – they’ve kept all the character of the original barn but made it properly comfortable. The exposed beams aren’t just for show, and the stone walls actually help keep things cool during those surprisingly warm Cornish summer days.

What really sold me on the place was how the owners clearly understand what travelers actually need. The parking is straightforward – no awkward maneuvering required, which matters when you’re driving down these narrow Cornish lanes. Check-in was refreshingly simple, and they actually know the area well enough to give you proper recommendations. Saint Teath itself is tiny, but you’re only about fifteen minutes from Wadebridge if you need shops or restaurants, and the Camel Trail is close enough for easy cycling. Port Isaac (yes, where they film Doc Martin) is a proper day trip from here, maybe twenty-five minutes by car. The hosts mentioned some local walking routes that don’t appear on the standard tourist maps – the kind of insider knowledge that makes a real difference.

I’ll be honest, the wi-fi can be a bit patchy in spots, but that’s rural Cornwall for you, and honestly? It’s quite nice to properly disconnect for a bit. The rooms are spotless and thoughtfully set up – good lighting for reading, plenty of outlets where you actually need them, and the beds are genuinely comfortable (not just hotel-marketing comfortable). The whole place has this relaxed, unpretentious vibe that feels authentically Cornish rather than trying too hard to be quaint.

If you’re the type who needs to be within walking distance of restaurants and shops, this probably isn’t your spot. But if you want proper countryside peace without sacrificing comfort – and you don’t mind a short drive to reach the coast or larger towns – Sleepers Barn hits that sweet spot perfectly. It’s the kind of place where you’ll sleep properly well and wake up feeling like you’ve actually had a break from everything.

  A lovely modernised barn.
  Beautifully styled and maintained, with high quality furnishings. Well thought out and functional, with all the cooking tools, ironing board, etc you could need.
  Lovely little garden area. Didn’t use the BBQ but excellent to have too.
  Great countryside location. Tucked away but close enough to Wadebridge, Padstow and the surrounding coast and got day trips to places like Eden Project, Boscastle or Tintagel.
  Charlotte was super responsive and helpful – even though we never met!
  Great, unexpected touch to have toilet rolls, tea, biscuits, bin bags, etc.
  Overall, delighted to have stayed here.
  
  What could be improved: Nothing not to like.
  Only observation is that unless you put the sofa bed away each day there is limited comfortable seating available. The one was great, but of another small one could be squeezed in that would be even better.

  Well located, drivable to many of the North Coast attractions. Parking was easy, cottage was well equipped and clean. Hosts were excellent and responsive to a couple of our questions despite being away themselves.
