Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of places in Cornwall, but Seagulls Boutique Lodgings in Mevagissey genuinely surprised me. When you first pull up to Polkirt – and honestly, you’ll want to follow your GPS carefully because these narrow Cornish lanes can be a bit confusing – you’re not expecting much from the outside. It’s this unassuming building that sort of blends into the village, but step inside and you immediately get why this place has a 9.9 rating.

The thing about Mevagissey is that it’s proper busy during summer months, I mean absolutely heaving with tourists trying to navigate those impossibly narrow streets down to the harbor. But staying at Seagulls puts you just far enough up from the chaos while keeping you close enough to wander down for evening fish and chips at Salamander or a pint at The Ship Inn. What really got me was the attention to detail in the rooms – and I don’t mean fancy marble or anything flashy like that. I’m talking about actually useful stuff: proper blackout curtains (you know how bright those Cornish summer mornings can be), decent water pressure in the shower, and beds that don’t creak when you move. The breakfast was brilliant too, with local Cornish ingredients that actually taste like something, not the usual hotel fare that could come from anywhere.

You’ll find parking here, which honestly is worth its weight in gold in Mevagissey – try finding a spot down by the harbor on a Saturday in July and you’ll know what I mean. The staff really know their stuff about the area too. When I mentioned wanting to avoid the crowds at the Lost Gardens of Heligan, they pointed me toward some coastal paths I never would’ve found otherwise. The whole place has this relaxed vibe that feels more like staying with friends who happen to run a really well-organized B&B than some corporate hotel experience. Sure, it’s not cheap – four-star places in Cornwall rarely are – but you actually feel like you’re getting what you pay for here. Whether you’re using it as a base for exploring the Eden Project (about twenty minutes away) or just want to spend your days wandering between Mevagissey and nearby Charlestown, this place gets the balance right between comfort and character.

  What a brilliant find! The property is situated up the hill from Mevagissy centre and has the most stunning sea and countryside views. Sarah and Dave are such wonderful and welcoming hosts; providing helpful tips on the area and places to visit. The B&B room was perfect for our 4 night stay, with a lovely balcony, comfy bed and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was taken in the dining room overlooking the beautiful garden, and was plentiful and delicious. Would we return? Definitely 😊

  Style, location and people. Beautiful room with high quality linen and towels. Dave and Sarah were super friendly and helpful. Dave even gave me a jacket as it was raining when we arrived and we weren't prepared!

  It was a very comfortable room with great views out to the sea. They provided a fabulous breakfast and Sarah & Dave were marvellous hosts. It felt as if we were staying with friends and they did everything possible to make sure we enjoyed our time in Mevagissey.

  Sarah and Dave have renovated their property to a very high standard and the view from the room is exceptional. They were both perfect hosts always ready to assist and provide local knowledge of the many attractions and locations in Cornwall. I can't fault the hosts or their house, a perfect location for a short break.

  The attention to detail is superb, everything is finished to a really high standard. The additional extras such as tea/herbal teas/coffee in the room give it a high-end hotel feel. The room/house was spotlessly clean and Dave and Sarah were fabulous hosts. To have breakfast included was a real treat, and there was a really wide selection of options. The views are beautiful and the location is excellent. Thanks Sarah and Dave for being such amazing hosts!
