Hotel Description
You know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of places along the Cornwall coast, but Sandbar in Saint Just in Roseland absolutely gets it right. First thing that hits you when you arrive on Chapel Close is how quiet everything is – I mean, properly quiet, not just “less traffic” quiet. This little pocket of Cornwall feels like someone hit the pause button on the world, which honestly is exactly what you want after driving down those winding A-roads. The hotel itself has this understated elegance thing going on, nothing flashy or trying too hard, just really well done. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – none of that hovering around reception for ages while they find your booking.
The location is actually pretty brilliant when you think about it. Saint Just in Roseland isn’t one of those places tourists stumble into by accident, which means you’re getting the real Cornwall experience without fighting crowds for a decent photo spot. The famous church with its subtropical gardens is literally a two-minute walk away, and trust me, it’s worth seeing even if you’re not normally into that sort of thing. What I really appreciated was how the staff knew the area properly – they pointed me toward this incredible coastal path that leads down to some hidden coves that most visitors never find. You can walk to the water from here, though you’ll want decent shoes because the terrain gets a bit rocky. The whole Roseland Peninsula has this almost Mediterranean feel on a sunny day, all those palm trees and sheltered waterways.
What sets Sandbar apart from other places I’ve stayed around here is the attention to details that actually matter. The rooms are genuinely comfortable – proper blackout curtains (rare in old Cornish buildings), excellent water pressure, and you can actually open the windows without traffic noise ruining everything. Breakfast was spot-on too, none of that sad continental buffet nonsense. They source locally where it makes sense, and you can taste the difference. The whole place has this relaxed confidence about it, like they know they’re good without needing to shout about it. Parking is sorted, which might sound boring but you’ll appreciate it when you see how narrow some of these village lanes get. I’d definitely come back, especially in spring when the gardens are going mad with color but before the summer crowds descend on Cornwall. It’s the kind of place that reminds you why people fall in love with this part of the world in the first place.

Simon from United Kingdom – 2 May 2025 (9/10)
Location was excellent. The property was in a quiet cul de sac with a beautiful view of the estuary. It was spotlessly clean and very well appointed with quality furniture and comfortable beds.
What could be improved: We turned the under floor heating off as it made the room a little hot. Nothing else.
