Hotel Description

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Saffron on Henver Road – it’s tucked away in this quiet residential stretch of Saint Columb Minor that you’d probably drive past without noticing. But that’s actually part of what makes this place special. You’re about five minutes from Newquay’s main drag (and all that chaos), but it feels like you’ve discovered some sort of hidden gem that the tour groups haven’t figured out yet.

The moment you walk in, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually cares about this place. I mean, you can tell the difference between a hotel that’s just going through the motions and one where the owners are genuinely invested – and Saffron is definitely the latter. The staff remembered my name by day two, which sounds like a small thing but you know how rare that is these days. The rooms have this perfect balance of being properly done up without feeling sterile or overdone. My room had these gorgeous views toward the coast (you can actually catch glimpses of the sea on clear days), and the bed was one of those where you sink in just enough without feeling like you’re being swallowed alive. Plus – and this matters more than people realize – the shower pressure was absolutely brilliant.

What really won me over though was the location knowledge they shared. Instead of pointing me toward the obvious tourist spots, they mentioned this little coastal path that starts just behind the industrial estate on Henver Road and winds its way to some spectacular viewpoints. On Sunday mornings, you can walk down to the village and grab proper Cornish pasties from the local bakery before the weekend crowd descends on Newquay proper. The parking situation is straightforward too – there’s actually space, unlike trying to find a spot anywhere near Fistral Beach during summer. I stayed during late September, which turned out to be perfect timing. Still warm enough for coastal walks, but without the August madness when you can barely move through town. The whole area gets this lovely golden light in the evenings, and you can sit outside without traffic noise or crowds of hen parties (though honestly, even during busier times, Henver Road stays pretty peaceful). That 9.8 rating isn’t inflated marketing nonsense – it reflects genuine attention to detail and the kind of hospitality that makes you want to come back. If you’re looking for something more authentic than the big chain hotels but with proper four-star comfort, Saffron hits that sweet spot perfectly.

  • Donelan from Ireland – 16 June 2025 (10/10)

Good apartment met our needs very well.

  • Caitriona from France – 29 November 2024 (10/10)

Clean and comfortable. Loved the welcome milk, tea coffee , Oj and water waiting for us. Good location for visiting my son. Plenty of amenities nearby and a very useful folder with household information. Nice secluded garden.

What could be improved: Just a wee note to our hosts. A towel rail beside the basin would be useful to stop dripping water over floor and then getting wet feet. Some slabs from path to recycle area would protect your grass.

  • Andrew from United Kingdom – 2 October 2024 (10/10)

The apartment was warm clean and the bonus of a nice garden area, a good location to go touring and close to the beaches in Newquay. Overall it was a perfect short break and we all agreed that we would come back to this apartment again.

What could be improved: Nothing to moan about.

  • Russell from Switzerland – 29 September 2024 (10/10)

Our stay in Saffron was amazing and it exceeded all our expectations. The apartment itself was immaculately clean, beautifully furnished, and had all the amenities we could have hoped for. The kitchen was well-equipped, allowing us to prepare delicious meals during our stay. The bedrooms were very comfortable and cozy, and the living area was perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring the city, with the added bonus of assorted board games available for those occasional rainy evenings. Location was great, just off the main street with parking, conveniently situated near all the major attractions and a only a 15 min walk down to the golden sands of Porth Beach. The hosts were absolutely wonderful as well.

House is so well maintained, very clean and neet. Host has quiet thoughtfull in putting all requirements such as milk, juice, ice in freeze. My six year old loved this house and wanted to stay more.

What could be improved: Only concern for newbee driver is parking as its busy road. No hassle for me in reverse parking.

Overall, we had a wonderful stay in Newquay (apart from the ever changing weather during our stay).
