Hotel Description
You know what? I’ve stayed in plenty of farmhouse conversions that promise the world and deliver beige carpeting, but Reddivallen actually gets it right. This place sits tucked away on a working farm just outside Boscastle – and I mean properly outside, not some “countryside adjacent” nonsense where you can still hear the A39 traffic. The silence here is almost startling if you’re used to city life.
The thing about Reddivallen is that it feels authentically Cornish without trying too hard. The stone walls are genuinely old (you can tell because they’re slightly wonky in that satisfying way), and the owners have resisted the urge to stuff it full of nautical kitsch. Instead, you get understated luxury – proper Egyptian cotton sheets, a bathroom with both character beams and decent water pressure (honestly, that’s rarer than you’d think), and windows that actually open properly for those muggy summer nights. The kitchen is particularly well thought out if you’re planning to cook – they’ve got decent knives and pans that aren’t warped, which tells you someone who actually cooks has equipped this place.
What really sold me was the location. Yes, you need a car, but you’re maybe ten minutes from Boscastle harbor – close enough that you can easily walk down to the Museum of Witchcraft or grab fish and chips at the harbor, but far enough up the valley that you’re not dealing with the summer crowds or parking drama. The farm track is a bit bumpy (fair warning if you’re in a low car), but there’s proper parking space, which is worth its weight in gold around here. I spent most evenings sitting outside with a glass of wine, watching the light change over the valley – it’s the kind of place where you actually switch your phone to airplane mode and mean it. The owners clearly know their business too; check-in was smooth, they left proper milk in the fridge (not those horrible UHT cartons), and when I had a question about local walks, they pointed me toward the coastal path route that most tourists miss. That 9.8 rating isn’t inflated – this is genuinely one of those places that reminds you why Cornwall keeps pulling people back.
