Hotel Description
You know that feeling when you stumble across a place that’s exactly what you didn’t know you were looking for? That’s St Petrocs Barns. I mean, the name pretty much tells you everything – these are actual converted stone barns sitting in proper Cornish countryside, maybe fifteen minutes from Padstow if you don’t get stuck behind a tractor (which you probably will, honestly).
The thing that gets you first is just how solid everything feels. These aren’t some flimsy conversion where you can hear your neighbor sneeze – the stone walls are thick enough that you actually get proper quiet at night. I stayed in October when the weather was doing that typical Cornwall thing of being sunny one minute and absolutely chucking it down the next, but inside you’re completely insulated from all that drama. The interiors strike this nice balance between keeping the rustic character (exposed beams, that lovely honey-colored local stone) and actually being comfortable to live in for a few days. You’ve got proper kitchens if you want to cook – and honestly, with Padstow just down the road, you’ll probably end up bringing back half of Rick Stein’s deli anyway.
What I really appreciated was how they’ve managed to keep it feeling like countryside without making you feel cut off from civilization. The coast path is basically on your doorstep, so you can walk down to the Camel Estuary without getting in the car, and if you’re into that sort of thing, the cycling around here is brilliant – relatively flat by Cornwall standards, which your legs will thank you for. Padstow itself gets absolutely rammed in summer (I learned this the hard way trying to get dinner on a Saturday in August), but staying out here means you can duck back to peace and quiet when the crowds get too much. The parking situation is refreshingly straightforward too – you know how some places make a massive song and dance about where to leave your car? None of that nonsense here.
I’ll be honest, it’s not the cheapest option around, but you’re paying for something genuinely special rather than just a fancy marketing story. The staff actually seem to know the area properly – they pointed me toward this little pub in St Issey that I never would’ve found otherwise, and gave me the heads up about which beaches have decent parking (crucial intel if you’re visiting in summer). The only minor gripe I’d have is that the WiFi can be a bit patchy, but then again, if you’re checking emails constantly while staying somewhere this lovely, you’re probably missing the point anyway.

The Stone Barns are in a very rural and quiet location, but within easy distance of Newquay, Wadebridge and Padstow in particular. The property is very well equipped with just about everything you need to self cater, and has 2 large sofas in the lounge area and a firestick for all your tv requirements. There is a log burner which we didn't use as it's summer, but the radiators do work well. The bedroom is cosy and the large double bed very comfortable with good quality linen. The bathroom has good lighting, and a shower over the bath which works well. Our hosts, Mary and Mark, were on hand to welcome us and avaialble in the house next door if we needed anything. They had very thoughtfully left us some alcohol and snacks. We enjoyed our stay in the barns and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to others. Thank you.
What could be improved: Nothing specific, although the taps in the bathroom are interestingly fitted!Mervyn from United Kingdom – 8 June 2025 (9/10)

This property is an absolute gem, we arrived in storm darroch and were greeted by our hosts who gave us lots of great information about where to eat etc. only 3 miles from Padstow with a wealth of restaurants.
This little barn is a delight, warm and incredibly comfortable. Every attention to detail has been carefully thought about. Piping hot water, great heating, lovely bathroom, well fitted kitchen area with all you could need. Nice added touches, little bottles of wine, Prosecco and snacks, tea, coffee machine and capsules, hairdryer, iron, wardrobe, drawers, drinks fridge, coat and boot rack, lovely soft furnishings etc. very quiet location, great undercover parking , Super Tv and wifi.
It felt very solid and cosy during the storm. The location was amazing for north Cornwall and the Eden project. Lands end was approximately 50 miles but access to everywhere was very easy
