Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about Rame Barton? I wasn’t expecting a working pottery studio attached to what’s essentially a beautifully converted farmhouse tucked away in one of Cornwall’s most charming corners. I mean, when you’re driving through Rame village toward Kingsand and Cawsand, you’re already feeling like you’ve discovered something special – but then you pull up to this place and realize the owners actually make ceramics on-site. There’s something genuinely satisfying about hearing the potter’s wheel spinning while you’re having your morning coffee.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to explore this little peninsula without dealing with the crowds that swamp places like St. Ives. You’re literally a ten-minute walk down to Kingsand’s tiny harbor (the path gets a bit steep, but it’s worth it), and Cawsand Beach is right there too. What I love is that locals still outnumber tourists in this area – you’ll find yourself chatting with fishermen at the Halfway House pub rather than fighting through tour groups. The guest house itself feels like staying with friends who happen to have impeccable taste. The rooms aren’t huge, but they’re thoughtfully done with locally-made furniture and those thick stone walls that keep everything cool in summer and cozy when the wind picks up off the Channel.

Honestly, the 9.8 rating makes sense once you experience how the owners run this place. They’re the kind of people who remember you mentioned wanting to see the sunrise from Rame Head, so they’ll quietly leave a thermos of coffee and directions to the best viewpoint. Parking is easy – there’s a proper courtyard, which is actually a big deal around here since the coastal roads get pretty narrow. The pottery studio doubles as a sort of informal gallery, and I’ll admit I ended up buying a mug that’s become my favorite back home. If you’re coming in summer, book early because word has definitely gotten out, but even then it never feels crowded. The breakfast uses eggs from their own chickens and local produce, served in a dining room that looks out over fields rolling down toward the sea. It’s the kind of place where you end up staying an extra night just because leaving feels wrong.

The property is immaculate and homely with all facilities you would require. The garden and surrounding countryside is beautiful, remote and quiet. Bree and Henry were wonderful, they made us feel very welcome and couldn’t do enough for us, we would love to return for a short stay with our children.
