Hotel Description
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Quillet Cottage on Glentowan Road – it’s tucked away in this quiet residential stretch just outside Pentewan’s main village bustle, and from the outside it looks like, well, just another cottage. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t need to shout about themselves.
The thing about staying here is that you’re literally a five-minute walk down to Pentewan Beach, but without any of the chaos that comes with being right on the seafront. I mean, during peak summer the main village can get pretty hectic with families and day-trippers, but up on Glentowan Road it stays surprisingly peaceful. The cottage itself has that proper Cornish character – thick stone walls that actually keep things cool in summer and cozy when the weather turns (which, let’s be honest, it does in Cornwall). What really got me was the attention to detail inside. The owners have clearly spent time getting the little things right – decent shower pressure, a kitchen that’s actually equipped for more than just making tea, and beds that don’t creak every time you move. You’d be surprised how rare that combination is in holiday cottages.
The location is pretty brilliant once you figure out the area. You’re close enough to walk into St Austell proper if you fancy a proper shopping trip or need to catch a train, but Pentewan village has everything you need day-to-day – a decent pub, small shop for basics, and that lovely little harbor that’s perfect for morning coffee walks. The coastal path picks up right from the village too, so if you’re into hiking you can head towards Mevagissey (gorgeous walk, takes about an hour) or go the other way toward Charlestown with its historic tall ships. Parking’s never been an issue when I’ve stayed – there’s space right outside, which is honestly a godsend because trying to park anywhere near the beach in summer is a nightmare. The only slight downside is that you’ll hear the occasional car on Glentowan Road, but it’s hardly a busy thoroughfare and certainly nothing that kept me awake. What I really appreciated was how the place feels like an actual home rather than a sterile rental – there are books on the shelves, local guidebooks that are actually current, and the sort of thoughtful touches that suggest the owners either live locally or genuinely care about their guests’ experience. It’s the kind of place where you could easily spend a week without feeling like you need to be out sightseeing every single day, but when you do want to explore, you’re perfectly positioned for both the coast and the inland attractions around St Austell.

Quillet Cottage was well equipped with a relaxed homely feel. Location perfect for exploring the coastline and beaches and Pentewen itself is nice and quiet even though there is a holiday park on the beach.

Lovely well equipped terraced cottage in quiet location close to former harbour. Private parking very close by. Ideal for visiting Eden, Heligan, Wheal Martin etc. Host's communications were excellent.
What could be improved: Although the day to day items and surfaces were clean, it did not do to look behind the net curtains in the windows, or under the beds, where it looked like it had not been cleaned for a long time. That was the only thing that stopped us giving it a 'Ten'.Jayne from United Kingdom – 21 April 2024 (8/10)

The cottage is in a lovely village close to the beach, shops, pubs and tea rooms. Also nicely located for trips on the Roseland peninsula, very close to Lost Gardens of Heligan, and some lovely walks nearby. Had everything we needed including a parking place closed by. We enjoyed our stay.
