Hotel Description
You know what really struck me about Portmellon Cove Guest House? It’s one of those places where the owners actually get it – they understand that travelers want to feel like they’ve discovered something special, not just booked another room. Tucked into Portmellon Park (which honestly feels more like a quiet residential street than what you’d expect from the name), this place sits just a stone’s throw from the harbor in Mevagissey, but somehow manages to feel completely removed from the summer crowds that pack the main village.
I mean, the 5-star rating isn’t just fancy marketing – you can tell from the moment you walk in that someone’s put real thought into every detail. The rooms have this lived-in elegance that’s hard to pull off… comfortable without being stuffy, thoughtful without being precious. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night – you’re close enough to walk down to the Lost and Found pub or grab fish and chips from Salamander, but far enough up from the harbor that you won’t hear the gulls going mental at 5 AM (trust me on this one, I’ve stayed closer to the water before). The parking situation is actually sorted, which is honestly half the battle in Mevagissey – anyone who’s tried to navigate those narrow streets with a car full of holiday gear knows what I’m talking about.
The thing that really sets this place apart though is how the hosts seem to genuinely know the area. They’re not just pointing you toward the obvious tourist spots – though the Eden Project and the coastal path are obviously worth doing – but they’ll tell you when the fishing boats usually come in, or which bakery has the best pasties before they sell out. It’s that kind of local insight that makes you feel like you’re actually experiencing Cornwall rather than just ticking boxes. The guest house sits perfectly for exploring both ways along the coast too… you can walk the cliff path toward Dodman Point if you’re feeling energetic, or just meander down to the little beach at Portmellon itself when you want something more low-key. Honestly, with a 9.7 rating, you’d expect it to be good, but this feels like one of those rare places where the reality actually lives up to the hype – which, let’s face it, doesn’t happen nearly often enough when you’re booking places online.

The Portmellon Cove Guest house is in a fantastic location overlooking the bay, it's a 5 min walk to the new refurbished Rising sun pub on the corner of the bay. It's a 20 min walk over the hill to Mevagissey Harbour witch is worth the trip. Sarah and Roy were lovely hosts, the breakfasts we had were lovely every day. Our room was very spacious with a comfy bed, comfy 2 seater settee, large wall mounted TV, large bathroom with bath and shower. Lovely garden with large seating area at the top looking down on to the bay. Spacious car park at the front too.
What could be improved: The very narrow road between Portmellon and Mevagissey that's why we walked.Daniel from United Kingdom – 21 September 2024 (10/10)

Quiet location. The room was large, clean, well furnished and had a great view. There was good choice for breakfast. Easy walking access in to Mevagissey, which had plenty of places to eat.
What could be improved: All good.
