Hotel Description

Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of Cornish cottages over the years, but Polrunny Farm’s Blueberry Cottage actually surprised me – and honestly, that doesn’t happen often anymore. The place sits just outside Boscastle (you know, that village that got absolutely hammered by flooding back in 2004), and while everyone’s rushing to St. Ives or Padstow, you’re tucked away in this genuinely peaceful spot that feels like you’ve stumbled onto something special.

The cottage itself has that perfect balance – it’s clearly been done up with care, but it doesn’t feel like one of those sterile holiday lets where you’re afraid to touch anything. The log burner is brilliant, actually works properly (shocking, I know), and there’s something deeply satisfying about getting a proper fire going after you’ve been out battling the coastal winds all day. The sea views from the windows are the real deal too – not some distant glimpse you need binoculars for, but proper sweeping vistas across the Atlantic. I mean, you can literally watch the weather rolling in, which sounds dramatic but it’s oddly mesmerizing when you’re curled up inside with a cup of tea.

What really sold me on the place was the little details that show someone actually thinks about their guests. The kitchen’s properly equipped (sharp knives – miracle!), there’s decent coffee rather than instant, and the bed is one of those where you actually sleep instead of tossing around all night wondering why holiday rental beds are universally terrible. The farm setting means it’s genuinely quiet – no traffic noise, just sheep and seabirds – but you’re still only a ten-minute walk down to Boscastle harbor. Perfect timing, really, because you can wander down for dinner at one of the pubs (the Wellington’s solid for food, though it gets packed in summer) and then stumble back up the hill feeling very pleased with yourself. The coastal path access is brilliant too – you can walk to Tintagel in about an hour if you’re feeling energetic, or just poke around the harbor and call it exercise. Parking’s right there, which saves the usual holiday rental faff of hunting for spaces with your car loaded down with enough supplies for a small expedition. That 9.3 rating makes sense once you’ve been there – it’s the kind of place that just gets the basics right while giving you something genuinely special to remember.

Reviews

    Location and charm

What could be improved: Some work required on some of the doors and locks etc

  • Leandro from United Kingdom – 28 January 2025 (10/10)

This cottage is a fantastic choice for those seeking comfort, convenience, and charm. Its location close to the city makes it ideal for easy access to shops, restaurants, and attractions, while still offering a peaceful and relaxing retreat.
The cottage is super comfortable and thoughtfully equipped with all the utensils and amenities you might need for a stress-free stay. The fireplace adds a warm and cozy atmosphere, perfect for unwinding in the evenings, and the underfloor heating ensures you stay comfortable even on the coldest days.
Everything is also impeccably clean, showing great attention to detail in maintaining the space.
Overall, it’s a wonderful spot for a relaxing escape, blending practicality with a welcoming, homely feel. Highly recommended!

What could be improved: Nothing to dislike

  • Ros from United Kingdom – 11 December 2024 (9/10)

The log burner, great shower and comfortable bed

What could be improved: The sofa could be L shape or bigger to make it perfect, but this would not stop us returning

  • Nichola from United Kingdom – 28 October 2024 (10/10)

Log burner and digital shower were both very nice

What could be improved: Door to property stiff but nothing that effected our stay

  • Jo from United Kingdom – 6 October 2024 (9/10)

Great views, great shower and lovely location of Boscastle.

What could be improved: If I’m being picky, it could do with slightly better light in the bedroom for getting ready to go out, and a floor length mirror- just me being picky as I say.

  • Marcus from Germany – 24 August 2024 (9/10)

The cottage is very well equipped and you are greeted with everything you need for a nice cream tea. There are plenty of sockets and chargers for electric vehicles. Also, you have got a nice choice of light options and a WiFi that enables you to stream films. You can use the log burner to create a comfy atmosphere and the bed is comfortable, too. We also liked the shower with the rain shower.

What could be improved: The main issue is the front door that was hard to open and close. There is an assigned parking space for the cottage, however it’s not really big enough for large cars. Luckily, there is additional parking a few steps away. The one lane road is very narrow and nothing for the faint of heart.

  • Colette from Ireland – 21 August 2024 (10/10)

The cottage was absolutely excellent. It was beautifully decorated, catered for every need. Comfortable great shower excellent kitchen equipment. The stove fire was a special treat.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Peter from United Kingdom – 18 August 2024 (10/10)

Very peaceful location and a good base for what we wanted to do.

What could be improved: The walk back from Boscastle.

  • Evelien from Netherlands – 15 August 2024 (10/10)

The house was just beautiful. It had everything you needed. We were welcomed with scones and treats for our dog. The cottage is super dog friendly. We had an amazing view to the sea. The kitchen has absolutely everything you need. Great location to visit Doc Martin's village, let a dog have a run at Black Rock beach and get a good breakfast there. Or enjoy the at the Boscastle Farmshop café and buy some pastries and cheese to eat for dinner at the cottage. Thanks Adam and Melanie for the hospitality!

What could be improved: The road to the cottage is very small, but that is nothing the owners can change and it is only a short piece of the road that leads to the cottage.

  • Mark from United Kingdom – 28 July 2024 (10/10)

The cottage was beautiful and set in a lovely quiet location. We spent two nights here and everything was perfect. The cottage was clean and comfortable and everything you will need for your stay is provided. We were welcomed to the cottage with a lovely cream tea provided inside, there is a lovely breakfast garden we used to relax in the evenings with a sea view. We had the best 2 nights here and I would highly recommend, perfect for a couples getaway. Melanie and Adam have provided a lovely place to stay and provided a smooth and easy check in process.

What could be improved: The fact we only booked 2 nights, I would highly recommend booking a week. There is so much to do and places to explore. We managed to do Nectans Glen and Tintagel Castle all in one day, but that's easily 2 days there. We will book longer next time. But in terms of our stay and the cottage, no complaints, we loved everything.
