You know what caught me off guard about Elderberry Cottage? I’d driven past Polrunny Farm dozens of times heading to Boscastle harbour, but I never realized there were these brilliant holiday cottages tucked away behind the stone walls. The sea view from this particular cottage is honestly spectacular – you’re looking straight out over the Atlantic, and on clear mornings you can see the waves rolling in from miles away. It’s the kind of view that makes you want to grab your coffee and just stand at the window for way too long.

The cottage itself feels properly Cornish without being touristy about it. I mean, you’ve got the thick stone walls that keep things cool in summer (though you’ll want to pack layers – it can get nippy in the evenings even in July), and the furnishings strike that perfect balance between comfortable and authentic. The kitchen’s actually well-equipped too, which matters when you’re staying somewhere this remote. Well, not remote exactly – you’re only about ten minutes’ walk down to Boscastle village – but remote enough that you don’t want to be traipsing to the shops every five minutes. There’s decent parking right outside, which is brilliant because anyone who’s tried to park in Boscastle proper during tourist season knows what a nightmare that can be.

What really makes this place special though is the location. You’re far enough up the hill to escape the crowds that pour into the village (especially around the witchcraft museum and the harbour), but close enough to wander down for a proper pasty from the bakery or a pint at the Wellington. The coastal path runs practically past your door too – you can be walking the cliffs toward Tintagel within minutes, and honestly, that stretch of coastline is some of the most dramatic in Cornwall. The cottage gets properly quiet at night, just the sound of waves in the distance and maybe some sheep from the neighbouring fields. I slept better there than I had in months. The whole setup feels like someone’s put real thought into making guests comfortable rather than just ticking boxes – you can tell this is a family-run operation that actually cares about the experience. Fair warning though: once you’ve had your morning coffee looking out at that sea view, everywhere else is going to feel a bit ordinary.

  Really comfortable, good linen, towels. Very clean and very well equipped. Great bathroom. Excellent kitchen, dishwasher and washing machine. Dishwasher tablets and washing capsules, tea and coffee, sugar, milk and oil, salt and pepper. TV with Netflix, WiFi. Beautiful views, very easy access and really close distance to Boscastle that we never explored before. Amazing place, guide provided with suggestions on what to do. Could not recommend more. Amazing! We will definitely be back. Oh almost forgot, we ware given cream tea when we arrived.

  A home away from home! The most incredible sea views. Peaceful, beautiful location with space for dogs to enjoy too. Warm and cozy cottage with all necessary amenities. Lovely to be welcomed with a cream tea set, as well as treats and blankets for the pups. Wonderful hosts who were kind enough to send one of our left behind items back to us via post. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay.

  What could be improved: From the photos it looked as though you were situated by the sea and the cottage is on its own, but it's inland about a mile steep walk from Boscastle and surrounded by other cottages, but still beautiful and lovely walks and local facilities

  Beautiful location with ocean views. Allot of space to relax. Play area for children, barbecue space. Home itself includes everything you need for longer stay. Also really nice gesture in form of welcoming meal- Cornish cream tea.
