Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Polrunny Farm Blackberry Cottage? The name actually makes perfect sense once you’re there. I mean, you’re literally staying on a working farm with brambles everywhere, and honestly, the sea views from the cottage windows are something else entirely. It’s one of those places where the photos don’t quite capture how the light hits the water in the distance – especially in the morning when the mist is still hanging around Boscastle harbor.

The cottage itself feels properly Cornish without being all touristy about it. We’re talking thick stone walls that keep things cool even when it’s blazing outside, and windows that frame the countryside like they were designed by someone who actually understood the landscape. The owners clearly know their stuff – there’s a wood burner for those unpredictable Cornwall evenings (and trust me, even in summer you’ll want it), plus the kitchen’s actually equipped for people who might want to cook with all the local produce you’ll inevitably buy at Boscastle’s little shops. Parking’s right there, which matters more than you’d think when you’re hauling bags and groceries up these country lanes.

What really gets me is the location – you’re close enough to walk down to Boscastle village for a proper Cornish pasty or a pint at the Napoleon Inn, but far enough up the valley that you’re not dealing with the summer crowds trampling past your windows. The South West Coast Path is basically on your doorstep if you’re into serious walking, and I actually prefer starting the hike to Tintagel from here rather than fighting for parking spots in the village itself. The cottage sits in this sweet spot where you get that proper countryside quiet at night – just sheep and wind through the hedgerows – but you’re not completely isolated if you need supplies or want to explore. It’s the kind of base where you could easily spend a week without running out of things to do, whether that’s beachcombing at Boscastle’s rocky cove, driving the twenty minutes to Padstow for seafood, or just sitting in the garden with a book and watching the weather roll in from the Atlantic.

  • Charlie from United Kingdom – 8 February 2025 (9/10)

The location , how quiet and peaceful it was and was like a home away from home .

What could be improved: How steep the stairs were 😂

  • Rupert from United Kingdom – 4 January 2025 (9/10)

  • Dieuwke from Netherlands – 19 July 2024 (9/10)

Beautiful location, comfortable cottage, good beds, got everything you need (from coffee and fresh milk to laundry detergent), nice outdoor spaces to relax. Welcome with fresh scones and clotted cream/jam which was really lovely

What could be improved: Cottage was great. Just location wise: you need to take the car to get anywhere, just a bit too far out to walk into the village/to the coast.

  • Renarta from United Kingdom – 5 July 2024 (10/10)

Beautiful location and blackberry cottage was very comfortable

What could be improved: The top of the staircase could do with a handle at the top step and a grab rail in the shower would make a massive difference

  • Alison from Australia – 26 April 2024 (9/10)

Self contained , parking, surrounded by beautiful scenery, close to village

  • Kimberley from United Kingdom – 25 April 2024 (10/10)

Location superb, spectacular views. Comfy beds, lovely sofa. Warm and cosy. Clean bathroom, good pressure and likes the sustainability re soaps etc and recycling.

What could be improved: Very minor and wouldn’t stop us from coming back but a little sign at the driveway to indicate BlackBerry Cottage.

  • Caister from United Kingdom – 4 April 2024 (8/10)

Lovely welcome package for us and our dog. Beautiful location with lovely views. Weather wasn't so kind but still enjoyable.

  • Vivienne from United Kingdom – 27 February 2024 (9/10)

Very clean, beautiful views, absolutely stunning

What could be improved: Every thing

  • Hannah from United Kingdom – 18 February 2024 (9/10)

The location was perfect for us, although we didn't walk down to Boscastle because of the weather, in the summer this would certainly have been possible (although would be a steep walk up!). We drove out to Port Isaac, Rock, Eden Project and Tintagel as well as St Nectan's waterfall. The cottage was clean, comfortable and great for kids and dog. Very relaxing. We liked the scones and clotted cream on arrival and a chew for the dog, a lovely touch!

What could be improved: Only thing we couldn't find was a cafetiere to make coffee but that really was the only thing in an otherwise well equipped kitchen.
